The Official Olympic Thread

I reckon us Glory Glory lot should get involved in Handball, the easiest sport of the Olympics, I reckon we'd have a good shot the amount of tossing that seems to be done in the Vice Den, our grip of the ball should be decent

Wow what a bricky comment spitshine, can't wait to see your celebration when you win olympic bronze.

Even if that was his real account who could blame him for saying it?

He is 18 and been through the year from hell, give the lad a break FFS

He has an Olympic medal, do you ???

Granted. However, the celebration for Daley was OTT for someone who got a bronze only with the help of the kind officials allowing him to retake his dive.

I see where you are coming from in that he celebrated as if he won the thing but to put it into context - the third best diver in that event in the world - I would be celebrating too.

Bronze is not bad and for an 18 yr old.

The Chinese silver medalist was 19 and he wasnt crying out of pure joy, he was gutted he just fell short of Gold.

The word perspective springs to mind...

Daley lost his father who was his idol and hero, for that to happen at 18 and for him then to go on and win a bronze is fantastic..

Justin Rose said it took him 5 years to get over the death of his father

His father's dream was just to see his son dive at his home olympics, unfortunately he died a year before the olympics. His father was his best friend. Imagine trying to train for an olympics, after your father has diedknowing your nation expects you to medal, the kid is 18 years old for fudge sake. That is not an age to have that amount of brick on your shoulders.

He would have desperately wanted to win a medal to make his dad proud, can you imagine the relief he must have felt when he clinched that bronze?

Any you say his celebration was OTT? Dont even get me started on your bricky comment about the officials letting him off.

I dont care if i get a gonading for this, but you're either a bitter wum, or a fudging dingdonghead, or both.

I have no allegiance to Daley I dont actually think i even like him BUT I have to acknowledge he did well to get third.

Like I say I see where you are coming from and to a point you could argue the losers mentality it showed BUT still harsh.

i dont think he would be celebrating a Bronze the way he did in four years time.

I think it's shocking to be so disappointed to get silver. You're the 2nd best in the world! Perspective indeed.

Also, a couple of pages ago I mentioned a guy from my high school who finished 27th in Modern Pentathlon. Disappointing? Get fudged. I'm immensely proud of him just to be there. I can't imagine the joy of competing in the Olympics. If I was lucky enough to qualify, I would be made up.

I mean the Chinese guy.

Oh my bad.

Well its like being a losing finalist in the world cup or something - no?

The guy apparently was the fave or one of the faves.

I just think the disappointment stems from the four years of hard work to get to that stage.

He was only crying as he knew when he gets home he will be put in the salt mines for the rest of his life for not winning gold

Yep, Chinese only won 6 of the 8 diving events. Seriously, that's actually close to unacceptable for them.

Wouldnt surprise me. The North Korea football team were tortured for not doing well enough (aka winning) the 2010 world cup.

Whilst all that went on, NK citizens were being told they had won the world cup...
