The inside Forward Conundrum

Yeah but like you say allegations, innocent until guilty etc. Besides whilst im all up for only buying players who wouldnt bring any disruptions or negative media attention it happens especially to footballers.

What happened with the lennon, thudd debacle that was in the papers a couple of months ago? I suppose a load of brick.

not worth the hassle - you don't attract those sort of allegations if you aren't putting yourself in the wrong situations. Lennon & Huddelstone? from what i recall the sum of those allegations were they were a bit rude to someone in a club - not exactly comparrable

Imagine we got Remy, and lined up like

-----------Ade/Defoe/Villa-----------
Remy---------------------------Bale
----Sandro----Dembele---Paulinho

It will just be pace and power and a very direct style with little emphasis on us keeping the ball in the tradition we have here. We need someone who can vary our play and importantly slow our play den, retain possession and be a bit more creative in and around the box. Can imagine Villa, Bale and Remy just picking it up running and shooting

How about Mohamed Salah of FC Basel? I was very impressed with him when we played them last year. In fact all 3 if their forwards seemed to cause us a lot of problems. He's only 21 too

True definitely not comparable... was trying to just illustrate a point.

For what its worth, I dont think Remy did anything but just my opinion.

I think for 5m plus Parker (a rough estimate) it would be a very good deal and will be worth twice that if we decide to move him on.

I don't think Remy is the answer unless we're just looking for a squad player.

If we sell Defoe and replace him with Remy as a squad option without it costing us anything we'll have done fine as he's a bit younger and perhaps a bit more clinical.

As a first choice though? I can't see it.

yeah that wouldnt work

I have a sneaky suspicion we will also go for Remy - itll be like 5m plus Parker or something like that. Which would be a bit of a bargain

Remy plays on the right though (which will be Bale's side). He's also way too direct/head down for what we need

His court case also won't be till after the window shuts, so we aren't going to sign someone with a potential 5 year prison sentence hanging over them. Remember Ched Evans and Marlon King.

If AVB wanted him, we'd have got him when QPR did.

Last summer, in the striker option thread, Kevin Gamiero was mentioned as a possibility for us. He ended up at PSG and I was thinking that, given that it looks like they'll sign Cavani he might be amenable to a move as he'll likely be further down the pecking order and would want maximum playing time ahead of the World Cup. I don't see any Ligue 1 games, so I don't pretend to know if he is the answer. I think he is 26 and I was trying think of forwards at clubs who have signed a big name. Could he play as an inside forward as part of a front three? Would he better than Sig or Dempsey? Do you think he would be gettable? Have PSG put him on stupid money, to make him no longer affordable?

Yeah I don't think that team would work at all at home, or against any team that parked the bus against us (which in combined is about 80% of our games these days).

We'd be fantastic on the break, but have no creativity to cause problems for anyone who sat back.

The left side slot has got to be filled by someone with some serious guile. A younger van der Vaart type.

In your opinion of course.

Listen we don't know what AVB is planning so it's impossible to be so sure who will play where. Not so long ago everyone claimed we would be signing a playmaker in the middle.

I always thought that Hotlby plays in a similar fashion to VDV. Not sure about him playing inside left though.

Remy's meant to have a £6m release clause but that is a lot of money for a player with a court case (and possible prison term) ahead of them

From what i've seen i'd trust both Holtby and Sig to play that role but still think we need to sign a player more naturally suited to that role.

I agree. Siggy could play there I'm sure but like you I'd like to see a specialist in the position. Bernard would be nice, or maybe Villa to play there (unveiled tomorrow I believe ;)) and another player at the point of the attack.

Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon would be amazing. He's a brilliant dribbler, however I believe he is left footed and plays from the right. Ideally you want 3 forwards who are all capable of interchanging

Villa --- Bale--- Lacazette would be full of dribbling ability and shooting.

I'd take the first two.

I want Bernard though, if not then I think Eriksen could play there. 21, affordable, talented.

Do you know what Rossi. I've always been very down on signing Eriksen and have as you know called him a poor man's Siggy etc.

However, I've always been thinking of him as a CM Modric/Moutinho/Pjanic type. And to me he's just too peripheral in matches/doesn't dicate play enough to do that.

As the creative one of a front 3 though (which I'd never though of him as till now) - a lock picker whose speciality might be ghosting into matches to prod a few dinked through balls, I don't think it's the worst idea at all.

Eriksen with 2 free kick goals in a friendly at the weekend.
