The "If we go down" thread

Oh I know. Pretty much every fan of every other club is hoping we go down. And that’s before you get to the media where I bet the articles have already been drafted and Sky will be hoping our last home game is the decider where they can revel in our plight.
That’s why we need a siege mentality from the fans. We can’t call the players out for not having it (well, we can I guess as it’s their job) if we the fans are resigned to us going down.

Dont like to sound bitter (although we are not helping ourselves too), but seeing in some of the decisions going against of late, and then seeing the same decisions given the oppsite way for others, I am really starting to believe Sky with help from the FA are actively trying to send us down

I dont know about that, what are our viewing figures like? Not sure the broadcasters would want to lose that.

Paranoid?

ME??

WHO SAID THAT??? 😂

Have to say, I’m so bored of the coverage of our season.

Every single person outside of Spurs wants us down. All the pundits are talking about how it would be great for the league, fans of other clubs on social media genuinely seem to be more interested in us going down than what their own teams can achieve, even teams that we have zero history with and have never won anything themselves are all over the phone ins and social media saying how they will hold parties if we go down. Honestly, it’s absolutely pathetic to read.

There are portions of our fan base that I’m not hugely fond of, but in the most part we’re a fan base that have been pretty long suffering, with owners that don’t try and improve their team, and I think our trajectory since the millenium has been pretty decent for a club that don’t spend millions and millions on wages for star players (aside from us having high net spends on dross).

Have to say though, if our fans really rub it in other fans faces if we stay up, as much as I think we need to worry more about rebuilding, I actually won’t blame them. Because the amount of abuse and stick we get from quite literally every other team now, honestly, just fudge the lot of them. If we’re not liked by anyone why even try to be. Sick of reading and hearing it. People like that little taco Rory the Chelsea fan sliding about taking the tinkle. It’s a joke. There’s banter throughout football, but the amount we get is not proportional at all.

I feel like the easiest thing to do for a manger right now should be to unite our players into a siege mentality, because the amount of articles and sound bites in existence where everyone, literally everyone, wants us to lose is unreal.

I wish I could like this more than once. It’s what we need, a total siege mentality for the final games. On the field and off it.

there are spurs vans who are already resigned it it not realising the role they could potentially play

I have mates binning off tickets like no one’s business and they wonder why I’m calling the out

It just has to be all in at this point, until it’s mathematically done. I’m at the point of do I believe we survive? Doesn’t matter, we’re in it till we’re not.

We just need the actual club itself to start taking it seriously as well. I’ve got friends talking about how ticket prices should at least be better next year, it isn’t time, I want to be in the Premier league, let’s worry about ticket prices when we know if we are.

9 games
That’s what we have
Yep we’re horrendous right now
But 9 games to get some results

I’m still clinging to the hope that in the last few games we get just enough back in terms of players, Bergvall, Kudus maybe to just get us over the line. I will of course take points wherever they come from.

Also trying not to over react to each stage, I think there’s a good chance Forest pick up a win today and make it look even worse for us, but you never know. I did also fancy West Ham to win last night, and they ended up drawing so fingers crossed I’m wrong again and Forest lose.

Agree with all of this

That's a great post.

Our relegation, combined with Arse winning the title, is already a part of the official Sky narrative. It will be great for the spectacle/product, and prove that the PL is the toughest and best league in the world, etc.

A big club (not too big of course, and thankfully not one of the fashionable ones) is going down, while their bitter rivals (media darlings, youngest team ever, who has never bottled anything) finally wins the title in fairytale fashion (never mind the fouls and the dives they always get away with).

I do get the appeal for a story like this, but the problem is that the narrative is pushed relentlessly, magnified tenfold until it becomes too big to not happen. That’s when fans, pundits and refs start to get influenced, consciously or subconsciously. And when the narrative starts to drive their thoughts, words and actions, it's turning into a self fulfilling, vicious cycle.

I get it though, we are a big club. Perhaps not as successful as others, but deep down everyone knows it. There is something about dragging a big club down to that level and the irony of it especially after building some serious enviable stadium.

However I when I saw Everton flirting with relegation, I never wanted them to go down. But I would say if Manchester United, Chelsea, Liverpool or Arsenal were in our position I would expect the same response. Perhaps Sky would take a different tone … but there is a reason I don’t BUY any Sky product.
