The Goon Thread

Is anyone else seriously worried that Wenger's attitude throughout the window would make sense if he'd always planned a last minute grab of Benzema, Ozil and Di Maria?

I can honestly seeing it happen - it's precisely the kind of sickener/downer that always wallops Spurs.

It's certainly possible that they bring in some quality players towards the end of the window or on deadline day.

I don't think it will be as part of some long term genius plan to grab top players at the last. Will be more of a scramble to get someone in I think. But it's still possible to make some very good deals happen towards the end so I'm not quite celebrating their poor transfer window yet.

No.

They sold Higuain, why would they also sell Benzema?

Maybe a chance with di Maria but not Ozil

They are scrambling, because they have spent the window chasing Higuain and then Suarez, missing out on players that they actually need. I think that they will end up with nothing, Wenger is convinced that the players he has there will come good.

If anyone can watch the SS news I believe Wenger is up soon criticising our transfer policy. Should be interesting.

****ing hilarious views from Wenger re Bale's value and our 'technical risk' in buying more than 3 players. How the **** would he know?

Yeah sort of. He said Bale was too expensive and we've bought too many players, in short.

edit: Missed Disco's post above. That's pretty much it.

He's right about Bale. But it's hardly like all the players we've bought will start every game. Soldado, Paulinho and Chadli have played most of the pre season with us and started both league games. Better than buying no one Arsene.

As a player, yes he probably is right. As much as I love(ed...t.b.c.) Bale he is not worth a world record fee on playing ability alone. However, as a marketable asset then yes, I think he is worth the fee and maybe more. And it's this premium that Madrid have been asked to pay for and rightly so.

I think they will buy - but whom? I dont know. Could be a trolley dash but I suspect there is a big signing on the horizon for them.

He is correct though - too many players who will take some time to gel I think the fruits will be seen NEXT season.

Agree to an extent but it's not like we've signed about 20 players like QPR did. Soldado and Paulinho have already slotted in and scored goals.

The first makes him seem bitter. We have people at the club capable of negotiating smart contracts and contract extensions so we can get top money when selling players whereas they had to sell van Persie for less than a Milner.

Second, meh. Probably right to some extent. Still a better option than not signing the players you need.

Bendtner Move To Hull Off As Wenger Admits Striker Could Be Useful

Arsene Wenger says he may take advantage of Nicklas Bendtner being unable to secure a move away from Arsenal after the striker once again saw his exit thwarted by his wage demands.

Bendtner came close to finalising a move to Eintracht Frankfurt during the summer but the club confirmed that he wanted to much money to make a move to the Bundesliga outfit.

Recently Premier League newcomers Hull also sounded out the Denmark international but once again the wages became an issue.

Manager Steve Bruce said of the 25 year old: "Everyone assumes (an interest in Bendtner) but the problem with Nic is can I afford him?

"He has a huge salary. I've been able to get him on loan at my last two clubs. I know the lad, he has terrific ability but it's difficult with the amount of money he earns at the minute."

And now after having not signed any senior strikers in the transfer window, apart from French youngster Yaya Sanogo, Wenger says he may find use for Bendtner as the possibility of an exit grows smaller by the day.

"The chance for him to leave now is very small," he told reporters today. "If he comes back well and gets fit, I will use him."

Arsenal had reportedly targeted Gonzalo Higuain in the transfer window but the club never made a concrete move and the Argentine ended up moving to Napoli instead.

Wenger put in a club record bid for Luis Suarez but Liverpool continually insisted they would keep their striker and the Uruguayan now appears set to remain at Anfield.

Now it seems Arsenal fans may have to get used to the idea of Bendtner being a genuine option, despite the Dane spending the last two seasons out on loan at Sunderland and Juventus; on both occasions struggling to impress.
