The all new Striker thread..

more foolish to bring someone in who is a specialist striker yet less effective up front than Alli or Lamela in that situation, as we’ve done before

I’d rather be short a player for a couple of weeks than be short of all the money wasted on wages to a player not worthy of a place in our squad, Joe Hart for example

Problem is all our attacking players will have too much game time in too compressed a timeframe, even without injuries. Son and Lucas will likely play almost every game.

The ideal answer is a player "good enough" to lead the line against non PL, non later stage Europa opposition. Bonus if he can play as part of two up front (if we get more of a finisher type, Kane can actually play deeper of two)

The statements being made by agents and connected media is the club has a 2nd ST as their number one priority next.

Agreed.

With how Pochettino wanted us to play I think it made more sense going with the options we had, I think we would have preferred getting a replacement for Llorente in, but it can be difficult. We quite obviously had other positions we prioritised higher.

With how Mourinho seemingly wants us to play I think a backup striker is more important. The added fixture congestion makes it even more important. Being in the EL rather than the CL perhaps makes it easier to find a suitable target, though obviously less money is available.

I think the reports are on point, a striker is the next target having secured a CM and RB.

We won't score goals and as a consequence win games if we don't play Son and or Kane in the starting lineup and we can't play them in every competition we have coming up. So unless we as a group are happy to struggle in the lower tier competitions we need a striker to play in those games.

I think if Wilson/King were the kind of level we are looking at then Jordan Ayew would be worth a look. He had a decent season last year and proved he could be the main man up front but I'm sure he can a variety of forward positions.

I'm guessing that its mainly just outgoings which is delaying us with a CF, or knock-on effect of other teams wanting to have a replacement lined up first etc. Otherwise we're starting to cut it quite fine to our backlog of games and a heavy workload for Kane and Sonny. Fingers crossed that whatever is causing the block is resolved asap!

We know that unless we get someone in to provide that competition / back up it's going to take an injury free season for both Kane and Sonny for us to be in contention for anything. The club knows that too right? I'm only on ep 3 of all or nothing but I hope the ball has dropped by now.

I'm close to researching the strikers out of contract out there and maybe having a word myself. It may be a time thing and perhaps we've been spoiled by some early signings but we are moving towards the risky stage.

Hate to be that guy but let's say Kane pinged something last night, suddenly all selling clubs have leverage to bump up prices and we're in a much weaker position to bargain.

The club knows that. They also knew that the situation in central midfield and at right back was even more pressing. So priorities were made.

Impossible to know what the hold up is, but Adam makes some good suggestions above. Can only hope it's sorted relatively quickly.

I suspect that we are interested in a foreign striker and we are trying to sell someone first to create space in the squad
