No doubt some of you lot got the lowdown on this fella:

Robin Bairner @RBairner
French press linking #Tottenham with a move for Saint-Etienne striker Pierre-Emerick #Aubameyang.

The original JJetset ‏@jetsetyid
AVB likes him

I imagine you think a deal is progressing then, will try and gain some more info on it tomorrow. He would fit AVB's system well!

The original JJetset ‏@jetsetyid
No it isnt but AVB does like him.

I've deleted the bits which are not relevant to this discussion

Let me attempt to put the question another way.

If we are indeed the financially prudent and not particurarly rich club who save all their chips for the stadium (presumably) - do you genuinely belive that if tomorrow a club paid us 30m in full we would go and spend all of it the following day on another player when never before in the past has that been the case with smaller and bigger sales of players and you yourself suggested most of it is used to for our larger projects. Even beyond that (on a financial level) - do you think it makes financial sense, all things considered?

I believe we would.

I believe selling an asset worth probably £5m in the books for £30m + add ons looks very good in the accounts. And to go on and outright buy a £25m player (asset) with no ongoing cost looks good at that point.

I think the point in our prudence is to spend within our means, £30m cash means it is within our means to get a £25m player if we so choose.

In the context of having a new manager and wanting to support him, having the cash in hand and wanting a player to "complete" the team I do believe we would go for it.

If we didnt have the cash in hand? Not quite as sure at all.

Spurs look to Roma for a Pjanic buy

20 August 2012

Tottenham plan to move for Roma midfielder Miralem Pjanic before the transfer window closes next week, according to sources close to the Serie A club.

Andre Villas-Boas last week revealed he wanted to add creativity in midfield and his top target, Porto’s Joao Moutinho, is likely to be outside Spurs’s price range at £25million.

Villas-Boas was also interested in Rennes midfielder Yann M’Vila but Spurs are now giving consideration to Pjanic, who signed a four-year contract with Roma last summer after joining from Lyon for £8.6million. He is now valued at about £12m.

Sources in Italy claim Pjanic could swap one capital city for another if Roma resist Emirates Marketing Project’s interest in Daniele De Rossi.

In the 4-2-3-1 system Villas-Boas is deploying, Pjanic could play either as one of the defensive pair or as part of the three-man attacking line which supports the lone forward. And at both Lyon and Roma, the 22-year-old Bosnia international was comfortable in a 4-3-3 set-up, which remains Villas-Boas’s preferred system.

Tottenham have also made an enquiry about City winger Adam Johnson and they are also determined to add at least one forward before the end of the month.

Despite the obstacles regarding his salary, Spurs are confident that they can conclude a deal for City striker Emmanuel Adebayor. The club have also been working on an offer for Leandro Damiao. The Brazilian is believed to be keen to move to north London but negotiations have been delayed by a failure to agree a fee with his club, Internacional.

FourFourTweet @FourFourTweet

Interesting news from The Times this morning, Lazio have rejected a bid from Spurs for Hernanes- a Brazilian playmaker

Aubemeyang looked good at the Olympics I must admit, although it is for Gabon and I can't even name another Gabon player so of course he'd look better than the rest. Scored goals in the French league (then again so did Chamakh and Giroud and Marlet etc.) Would probably be cheap too

Stoke are looking to snatch Owen from Everton's grasps within the next hour. Exciting transfer this.

This guy was supposed to have been one of the bargain transfers of last summer, people couldnt believe he had gone so cheaply. No idea if he is any good though.

Derby have signed Conor Sammon on a four-year deal after agreeing an undisclosed fee with Wigan
