Ok I was actually about to do a whole new shiny thread on this but decided I can put it in here (yeah at the fudgein risk of you fudgers making jokes)

I want to change my name - in all seriousness im so used to using my shortened surname that my original surname has now become defunct except for the most important two documents - passport and drivers license).

Anyone changed their name before by deed poll? which service did you use? how much did it cost? I have googled and there arent many reputable sources who do this. I didnt even realise there is no government type service - these are all 'organisations' who entered in this so called area.

Help would be appreciated.

When I was a lot younger I had a friend whose name was Paul dingdong, not a problem when he was young but once he started work and attended meetings and other things where he had to wear a name tag or got his name called out over the public address he got fed up with the childish giggles and decided to change his name. He did it by deed poll but I think he did it through a solicitor.The funny thing was when he announced in the pub he had changed his name to Dion my other mate went "but why change your name to Dion dingdong":ross:
My brother in law also had a German Surname(as his dad was German) and he changed it to a more English version to help in business and so his kids didn`t get stick at school(sad but true) I will quiz him next time I see him and find out exactly what he had to do

I work with someone called Mike Hunt, he is also a singer-songwriter. When I first booked him for a show, I did have to check whether he had a stage name. I also had to be careful when I was promoting the show on BBC radio!

I work in a secondary school and there is a girl called Love. Whenever I talk to her it makes me laugh because I panic and think did I just call a girl love but then realise her name is actually Love. Alright Love? No Love, Yes Love, OK Love and all the rest of it....

I changed my surname on my 18th birthday (fell out with biological father, took mothers remarried name). I went to a solicitors and had a legal document drawn up and had to sign stuff. Can't remember much about it as my Mum arranged it. Not sure how much it would cost now but 20 years ago it was ?ú50.
