***Spurs vs Saudi Sportswashing Machine***, League Cup, 29th October 2025 at St James Park

Classic football. Make a yellow card tackle, but do enough to cause some afters. Both players involved in the afters, but one of them also made the yellow card challenge. So both get a yellow.

Don't think I've ever seen a ref do something other than a yellow card to both, but it's stupid.

I'm sorry, are you saying that a scissor 'challenge' waist high from behind is a 'yellow' card challenge????

What are peoples thoughts on thanks goals
I really think Kinky will come good but for me, both were his mistakes that contributed massively
The first corner was his lack of communication and he dived like a lump for the header
The second was him coming out and completely missing everything
I'm unsure if him. He's a proto Ederson. Great I. Possession but he's pretty poor at saving chances. I'm not sure he's actually that great a potential tbh. I'd want a keeper to actually be good at making saves primarily, everything is a bonus. He seems to be the opposite way around.

I thought we acquitted ourselves well all things considered. We ran the last 25 mins of the first-half and should've scored a couple. After 20 awful minutes, Xavi worked very hard to get into the game, and continued to show fight which is encouraging. I am sad about Brennan TBH. I think his head's gone. I'm sad about Richy because I wanted to believe. He is not the CF we want or need. I think both should probably be sold while we still have value from them, and reinvested fast. Bergvall was great, what personality. Kinsky? He does make a lot of errors. I think the comment above about how best to develop him/possibly a loan was on the money. Credit to TF for trying to mix it up a bit tonight...

...Chris Kavanagh produced one of the poorest displays I've seen from a ref all season. How he didn't see that absolute thug Joelinton's challenge as the red card it should've been needs to be explained -by him- publicly. That was a disgraceful moment, absolutely disgraceful.

Against Chelsea I'd start with a midfield of Pahlinha, Sarr and Bergvall, and a forward line of Richy, Muani (at CF), and Kudus...

Is he great in possession?

He played some really stupid passes tonight, putting team mates in trouble.

We were crap last season, top scorer or no top scorer. Have you watched Johnson play? Did you watch this game? He's bloody awful.

I watch every game. And I think the thing that people give him credit for, in terms of being in the right place at the right time, if it was so easy then any player would do it. I think he’s a fantastic finisher and has great instincts and awareness in the box, great timing. Certainly not one of our worst ever signings.

Even on an objective level, even acknowledging we were bad last season, someone scoring 18 goals cannot be one of our worst signings. It’s a complete exaggeration, I’m assuming you watched us in the 90s?

HIs goals don't make up for everything else he is terrible at. I can't be bothered to go over it again, I've said it on here dozens of times. He's incredibly one dimensional, an awful footballer and at £47m yes probably he is by definition one of our worst signings.

If some goals scored please and blind you to all of his inadequate then fair enough I'm happy for you. I require a bit more than that.

I’m not saying he’s one of our best signings ever, I’m just saying that someone scoring 18 goals in a season including the winning one in a European final allows him to scrape up from beyond the chaff that is actually in line to be our worst ever signing.

We will have to just agree to disagree. I watch him play and for £47m hes one of the worst signings we've ever made.

I'm not impressed by his goals, I'm distressed by his play.

I know what you're saying and part of me wants to agree with you... yet I also saw Andy Cole at the side of the pitch, and he was a really poor player in terms of general football skill, but also a top scorer.
Ditto Inzaghi, he would be offside 9 times per match, hopeless at link up play, but always score 1 or 2 poked goals each game as he broke the offside trap.
So I suppose Johnson just needs to be used in a specific way. Expecting him to dribble and beat his man, is like expecting Kudus to beat Dan Burn to a header.

If it means we put Chelsea to the sword on Saturday night, I can live with going out tonight.

An early exit has done United no harm (granted they have no Europe either)
Dream on re Saturday; we're cack. Not Postecoglou cack, but cack nonetheless. I don't care that we've gone out of this, though; we weren't going to win it and we don't need the extra games.

To be this poor at football but also goal scorer you need to score a tremendous amount counter balance all the bad. He does score but nowhere near enough for me to accept that as a fair offering.

I think the best use for him is at Brentford or Wolves or whoever gets promoted next summer.

Meh, my big hope for tonight was to avoid injuries. Did we get through unscathed?

This is such a tiny cup, I'm really not bothered. We would spend more in travel etc. than the winning team gets, even if we beat NEW MNC ARS CHE to win it.

Our squad is paper thin, we really don't need these silly little extra trophies.
Yeh let's wait another 17 years to win a trophy. This 'tiny' Cup is the only Cup we likely had a chance to win this season. Big teams win trophy's season in season out which is why City have dominated this trophy for years.

not fussed about the carabao cup, especially as we are struggling with injuries

tough matches rolling thick and fast now, league points for Europe next year remains the main priority for me

but how was that tackle not a red?

Interesting that people are so happy to give up this cup. Would have been Fulham at home in the quarters. We're most certainly not winning the Champions League, so now we're down to 1 winnable competition.
