Savinho

I just watched a further analysis he did and came here to post it. The frustrating thing re Savio is it seems very few people have seen him play outside of his time at City. It's almost a night and day difference in his play style and approach being played mainly on the left and Girona and having the freedom to be their attacking catalyst and his time at City where he was very much just a cog in the city much more restricted and played on his weaker right hand side which changes his game style dramatically.

It is a difference
But it’s a very different league too

I think you\re talking about 2 players that woud have been natural centre mids in prior eras of the game. Nowadays the athletes play in the middle of the park and you might get a deep lying playmaker if you're lucky. The playmakers get farmed out in the wider spaces.

I agree, and it has had me questioning whether the game currently has room for this sort of player (sadly)? Looking at the England squad for WC, it appears not really, and TBH, I think it is such a shame!

Arteta too. Tuchel saying freestyling is bad . Has football reached its ultimate mechanical and boring end stage?

Guardiola took 2 of the most exciting English midfield players (Foden, Grealish) and turned them in robots. I understand he had 3 great creative midfielders at the time but it was a diservice to the player and England, although I expect they will be happy with their medals.

I choose to believe the the antidote to boring mechanical football is free flowing football, a team full of beautifull passers and dribbly wingers and a maverick playmaker, where big boring bully boy teams can't get close to the ball. The league is ours, my fiver is on it...again!
However back in the real world Savinho will make it difficult for teams to double up on kudus without leaving a ton of space in the middle and he is prepared to try and assist where Tel gets the goal rush and shoots 99% of the time (I'll ignore the wonderful assist at the end of the season to make my point)

To dare is to do.....i guess (as long as we don't leak easy gaols at the other end a la under Ange...)

I think the Grealish story is over played, I just dont think he was as good as mamy said, he also never was an out and out winger, he loved to put his foot on the ball and slow play to his own tempo, he has always done that IMO.

Foden just looks rank out of form

Seem to recall that Poch viewed Grealish as a long term Dembele replacement.

Realistically is he going to be any better than Tel?

I think you have to factor in the effect of having 2 players fighting for 1 shirt. They'll all be better once this manager gets that in place and is clear to them what he requires them to do. Then it is up to them to perform or sit on the bench. The squad will need to go through a cultural change from Ange and Frank who basically made it OK to lose games and took the bullets themselves. RDZ isn't wired that way.

FWIW....

I'm pretty sure i've seen variations of this same post most of the last window and so far this summer from Romano. It's almost as if he dusts if off, changes a few words and sends it out every couple of weeks or so
