Spent years doing it when the science was incontestable. All because he “had a career in the motoring industry.”

He’s a Grade A t wat imo, who has moved from one caraciture (petrolhead) to another (farmer) as a means of grifting a living.

(Anecdotally, my wife grew up in the same village as him. He was known as the biggest di ckhead in Yorkshire long before he became famous.)

Yes it is that. Amazon want a successful show. Clarkson is a tv personality who provides that. (Tbh its more successful than they ever imagined)

As I've said, he has the safety net of other income, inc Amazons. BUT, that doesn't deny/invalidate the light he shines on the brick circumstances/rules/life most other farmers face day to day. He suffers them too, to be clear.

Do you watch the show? This isn't Clarkson being his stereotyped male chauvinist blokey petrol head.

Brexit killed alot of it, people won't wanna hear that but its true. UK farming used to make alot of its money on exporting to the EU and the world because the British standard on farming is what restaurants and hotels etc wanted abroad, then we would as a country import the cheaper produce from Holland to make up the surplus of what we needed here. Now that equation has been torn up and the British are selling to the Brits and for prices that the supermarkets want to pay etc, which is alot cheaper than what they were getting abroad.

The DP port down the road from me has a huge number of prep warehouses for it where produce was treated and packaged for EU sales. Its alot quieter now

I think you're being a bit harsh with categorising him as a 'grifter' ...by modern standards, take a look around man!

I think the reality is seeing it first hand impact his farm shows that Climate Change is real, you get peoples attention when they are hit in the pocket

The food security one involves external supply chains, which are pinch points outside the boundaries of the UK. Disruption there will have an immediate impact within days and a potentially catastrophic impact within a week ( 9 meals from anarchy...). You could argue most of the others are somewhat under the control of the government, or could be in an pinch. I just think that food is the soft underbelly of the UKs national security and needs more attention. I'm sure I read recently there are little to no national stockpiles. At least you have a target though (60% sufficency). We don;t even have that over here.

The UK needs to be more self sufficient in multiple areas, most medicines and vaccines for example are made elsewhere - granted we'd still need to import the raw ingredients. There was plans for AZ to invest in a vaccine facility but Labour reduced the support on offer and AZ abandoned it.

What need is there? Where does this need for self sufficiency end- national, regional, community or personal level?

Should we all know how to do everyone else’s jobs?
 
Many actual farmers have said that Clarksons programme has done more for farming in the UK and to shine a light on the issues than any Farmers association has managed in years.

I really enjoy it and I think he’s been very open about how yes, he’s a millionaire and can afford his farm failing but it does highlight how ‘normal’ farmers struggle to make ends meet and the reasons why.
