Politics, politics, politics (so long and thanks for all the fish)

Oh yeah, because the world of 'markets' is a bastion of honesty. :ross:
Markets can't be honest or dishonest, that's like saying the gravity that makes you fall off of a cliff is bad, but the gravity that stops you floating into space is good.

You know what I'm referring to, don't be obtuse. Markets don't function without humans influencing them.

Nicked from FT comments responding to an article outlining the current UK-EU trade impasse:

UK: Give us our Cake!
EU: What cake?
UK: The cake we imagined you promising to us.
EU: Can you imagine us giving you the cake?
UK: No. Give us our cake!

Whether you think Brexit is a good idea or not it should be indisputable that inflicting the far-reaching changes of full Brexit, deal or no deal, on the UK in its current state is an act of suicidal madness.

There was no plan as Tusk pointed out. There was no easy deal. There was no obvious or mid term upside. This Government has no vision and has achieved nothing but uncertainty, cost, complexity and division.

The EU's attitude over fish stocks sums up the EU in general to me.

It is a UK natural resource, I do not see Canada giving up natural resources for free. Now apparently the EU is prepared to pay extra for 15% of the fish they take from UK waters.

It is a controlling and bullying attitude and why I will always despise them, I will acknowledge they do some good work in certain areas notably the environment and workers rights. But their thirst for domination and control has a very chilling echo for me.

Some parts of me thinks we should just try to get a deal done and get as far away from them as possible but the other part thinks what a bunch of fcuking pyschos, no deal for me.

Yeh, sums it up perfectly for me

It's their attempts to enforce those rules outside their own boundaries that's the most pernicious of all their policies.

Those evil folks from all over Europe who want the world to have fewer pollutants and for people to have better lives. Pernicious so and sos!

A rather more cold analysis was provided by the government's independent Office for Budgetary Responsibility or OBR. If all goes well - negotiations with the EU result in a deal and the transition is smooth, the OBR calculates the UK will have a 4% loss to GDP. To put that in context the OBR thinks covid will hit GDP by 3%. Is Brexit worth it?

This is not what was promised. Vote Leave said that “there is a European free trade zone from Iceland to the Russian border and we will be part of it”. Boris promised just last year that he had “an oven-ready deal”. At what point do you put the in-out divide to one-side and admit the whole sorry project is poppyrooster?

You continue to confuse this government's performance in negotiations with the concept of leaving EU membership. They are not the same.

Didnt Germany try and fail because they ended up producing more Carbon Dioxide by burning off coal to support the failings in wind and solar?

question for those who are to the left of centre in politics. Any of you kinda like, *shrug* now? I consider myself centre left (champagne socialist is probably the official term), but i'm at the point now where it's a bit like, reap what you sow, if people want to vote for the Tories, go ahead, it won't impact me much.

I mean, BBC News report today on children rummaging for food through bins in Burnley, but then in 2019 GE Burnley voted for the Tories who have overseen massive amounds of poverty increase across the country.

If the people of Burnley think voting for the Tories will make them better off, good luck to them.

The last election was a referendum of sorts on EU membership. You will see a very different outcome next time. If we have left the EU the only way to get a majority in this country is with a centre left message.

Agree, but there's so much more to putting a Govt in place for 5 years. Like i said, poverty has increased since 2010, if 9 years after the people of Burnley think EU membership is the biggest issue in their lives, fair play to them. But then don't complain there's poverty in your area
