Permanently baffled by the 21st century

It's like we've become a nation of Scousers with the public outpouring of grief and the endless laying of Flowers. It didn't kend me to my very core.

I felt sympathy for William and Harry, of course. But that was the beginning and end of it. The whole farce afterwards I found (and find) most distasteful.

Exactly the same for me (the bolded bit). However, I was still furious that we had failed to beat the goons at the library that afternoon, and I think my response was something along those lines. That's where our stories differ...

A fair point, Im just endlessly baffled by the reward people get for having no talent.

Used to be a particular skill, talent or ability was what earned you celebrity (if you wanted it) and a good earning/lifestyle.

These days that almost seems frowned upon, while the quick easy buck is preferred.

I am baffled by..... Vaping.

As a smoker of over 20 years, when it came to quitting, I quit. Wasnt necessarily easy, but I did it - and stayed off the cancer sticks for 4 years now.

At no point did I look at people vaping and think "Ill switch to that". Not once.

Even as a smoker, battling the breaking of that habit, I looked at people vaping and thought they looked like tacos.

Ridiculous clouds of fog billowing out of their faces and going all over people/in peoples way. And then, not only do you look fudging ridiculous sucking off C3P0, it turns out your potion of choice is sickly strawberry candy floss.

Genuinely, Id rather the stink of tobacco from a cigarette, never has it made me gag and want to vomit like vapes have.

And, of course, to over hear a conversation about "the set up", battery, capacity, "I make my own liquids"... Its just embarrassing.

Im surprised its taken so long, but Im not surprised to be seeing these kind of headlines appearing:

How people could merrily take these untested and unregulated devices and just start consuming them, putting that brick in their bodies is beyond me.

Id ban the lot of them. And if I were an employer "Do you vape?" would be one of my screening questions.

Being attractive has always paid very well, it's just never been so open.
 
What's the country gonna be like when all the young wanna be famous but dont want a real job people are grown up in 10+ years?

Do you think this generation will still be all over social media when they are older or will they trail off like most of us did who were around at the start of FB?

I think they have grown up with it, and wont be able to put it down.

I didnt get a mobile until I was 17, Facebook at 22 (I think?!) and so I managed to live a life without any of its influence.

Kids theses days barely distinguish between virtual and actual, they are onto these things from such a young age.

That in itself I dont mind, its more the aspiration of "I want to be a celebrity" without any semblance of the work ethic or talent required in years past. Now its a simple as "get on a 'reality' show and get your tits out" and thats it. Culture around these things is extremely damaging IMHO.
