Yes.. another midfielder.

But I really like this guy. I see today we have been linked with him. He is a Spanish midfielder currently playing in Serie A for Sampdoria. Now some of you may know that I am a big fan of Serie A and actually support Roma. He is young but tall and powerful. He really does remind me of Yaya Toure, especially a younger version when Toure was more defensive minded than he has been in recent years with Emirates Marketing Project.

If we can get this guy in at the right price I would be all for it. I know we always say we have too much midfielders, but Sandro, Dembele, Paulinho, Bentaleb and Obiang is a great set of midfielders to have, they all have different strengths to their game. Whilst none are exactly the most creative, we would rely on our wide men of Lamela or Eriksen or whoever it may be in future to add that creativity. Look at Emirates Marketing Project for example, they field a central midfield of Toure and Fernandinho, not blessed with the creativity of a Modric or a Carrick, but they rely on the likes of Nasri, Silva, Aguero etc. to get them goals, it doesn't hurt that Toure also adds the goals, which hopefully some of our midfielders can do, looking at you Paulinho.

Due to the guy being relatively unknown out of Italy, it's hard to try and find a famous YouTube video for some of you guys which would highlight his driving runs, defensive work, vision in his ball and close control. BT Sports often show Serie A games, so if you ever see Sampdoria on there, give it a go, you will be impressed with what you see of the guy and it's hard for him not to stand out.

Please can you provide a URL to the story/thread or name who is linking us to him. Thanks

I think we all did, probably not a fair question, how about did you think he we a player that could really push on from "exciting oyung prospect"

Yes. Watching him at Roma, I always thought whenever I watched him that he is the next big thing. I still believe this. The confidence that oozed out of him at Roma was special, that only special players have. It's why I've been surprised with his lack of it in England. He is probably the most talented player in our squad alongside Eriksen, once he shows it, we'll have a real player on our hands.

100% agree with this, I've said all along he'll come good, given that Spurs don't sell him before it happens. Although it does worry me as we do have a bit of a history in discarding young players with potential for whatever reason.

Mumorn, did Lamela look as lightweight and easily bullied off the ball at Roma? Is the PL so much more quicker and rougher?

I keep praying he is working on his strength and conditioning because like you said, skill wise he looks the part.

From what I have seen a good comparison for Lamela this season is Pires in his first season over at South London Nomads FC. Knocked off the ball too easily at times, wanting too much time at other times and then sometimes over rushing what he does at other times and makings basic mistakes as a result. Pires came out of that a much better player as he adapted to that pace and physicality, Lamela has just as much chance of doing so if he sticks around.

He takes Viagra every morning.......................................................:p

I thought he'd start more than 3 games.

that wasnt really the question though.

but this thread is about someone else, i think cochise has a point here...coming from serie A you would probably have to have a negative co-efficient on players from there, factor in the style of okay for their team that they sre shining in , does it meet our? are the two styles compatible?

is he a standout player in a poor league? or does he standout in conjunction with the team mates he has around him? can he drive is team in a positive direction / attitude

The guy will be at a big club competing for Champions Leagues within 3 years.

i know you believe this, it doesnt help someone like me though appreciate where you are coming from.

personally i think that a lot of players in serie A by default...may be slightly overrated

i know it is generalising GREATLY, especially when i dont watch the games as you do but i look at people there that are considered amazing and aside from a few players all i think it "Meh"

maybe this guy is the real deal , who knows. i certainly dont

Oh they are, most definitely overrated. The quality in the league is improving rapidly though. Next time Sampdoria are on or are scheduled on mate, I'll send you a PM and perhaps throw a boat your way to float along a river just so you can see a glimpse of him if you want and you can lay judgement down on him after a full game perhaps?
