OOMT - Tottenham vs Emirates Marketing Project

Am i the only one thinking Sanchez is being harshly done for the goal? Barged off the ball mid stride
Yep, running at full pelt, watching a ball come his shoulder, and having to turn all with no help from anyone else. WTF was the rest of the defence?

fudge! Didn't realise the game is tomorrow. I've booked a table and a 5 course at a gourmet restaurant, and my parents are babysitting.
Well, well.... Perhaps better to not watch it after all.
Glad I decided to burgle @Kandi1977's house instead of watching. His Roomba was in a right state.

(If Kandi's house has now been burgled, it wasn't me, 'onest guv.)

Manager has to take some blame though for our insipid performance. Not in midweek where we went for it but today we were beaten from the start
Aside from Kane's freekick did we actually threaten Ederson's goal? I think Lamela might have had a shot. So we were brick in attack and brick in defence. What on Earth were we working on in training? Maybe not a lot because of the cup game. But so did City. It's just they have an embedded system and we don't.

Were we that bad in defence. We didn’t cough up chance after chance. They got three goals from three laughable mistakes. Hugo made one other save and that was when the game was dead. I thought Dier, Tanganga and Sanchez played well to be honest.

We looked threatening first half on the break but frequently Lamela and Moura killed us by turning back or wasting a pass. It wasn’t great because we didn’t have many chances but I thought we were well set up but individuals fudged us.

Im far from a Jose fan but I’ll give him a pass for today. Next few games will tell a story.

I felt city could have had more.

I’d be looking to build the back around:

Tang
Rodon
Reggy
Poss Dier as an experienced option

Then I’d be looking to add:

Good quality CB
Ricardo Pereira

Davies/youngster can be 2nd choice to Reggy providing Reggy doesn’t become injury prone.

Aurier as cover at RB.

Then we need to settle on a back 4 with a maximum of one change game to game if required and where possible. Not wholesale changes to personnel and systems.

West Ham picked up Craig Dawson. Leic picked up Jonny Evans. These players would be scoffed at on here but the reality is they are reliable and require minimal coaching. I’m not for one minute saying these players should be our targets, but if Wham and Leic can find cheap, reliable solutions that hit the ground running, then why can’t we?

Mings and Tarkowksi would be ones I’d be looking at in terms of the Prem. Both have another level in them and would hold their value.
When I suggested evans to replace Toby (as Toby was surely being signed for £25m I was laughed at...
I’ve been suggesting Tarkowski in the transfer thread
Mings would be too expensive for what we would get firm him IMO
Perreeira we wanted but he got badly injured and now is a £50m player

I wouldn't get carried away with this result. City are by far the best side in the league.
We all know there are issues in defence, but throwing out the whole squad on the back of that game...
At least it seems Mourinho has decided to go with a more balanced approach and not ultra-defensive.
I'm more optimistic about our chances of beating most of the dross in the league with that approach.

I’ve wondered for a good year if I’ve over rated a lot of our squad and I can’t see anything but yes as the answer. I’m embarrassed that I thought Poch going (as much as I loved him) would help the squad realise their full potential. The fact is the real top quality has gone and we are left with a lot of bang average. Verts not replaced,Dembele irreplaceable (NDombele is nowhere near his dominance yet, despite his ability), Eriksen replacement nowhere to be seen.
Every game I’m looking at what Mourinho can do to change things and it’s uninspiring - he either has Sissoko, Moura and Lamela starting because the others have been so poor or they are the players we have to turn to on the bench if things aren’t working. Dele hasn’t been the player he can be for a couple of years, maybe he can come back to form with time but not holding out hope. Bale just can’t be relied upon, Davies is ok but such a come down in quality from Reguilon and out CBS are to be polite inadequate. The only bright spots are Sess and Skipp out on loan who could genuinely challenge for first team spots next year the way things are. This squad needs a lot of work.....

Agree to an extent. We’ve got some big holes that need filling; CB (both), DM and another attacking player alongside Kane and Son. But then again I don’t think anyone was worrying about us missing out on the top 4 when we were top in December (seems like forever ago now). Yes I know people get carried away with form and no one (except maybe one or two posters) expected us to win the league but most thought we had enough to maybe challenge and finish 3rd-4th at worst

We got told poch wasn't a winner so we brought winners in, Jose, Hart (really trying not to laugh at that one) and bale.
Good to see it making a difference.

Agree with this but I think we need to try and get a new keeper, I’d like Pope but would settle for any number 1 in the lower prem except the lad at Sheffield United. If we can get someone like Bissouma as an upgrade on WinksSissoko, possible funded by Lo Celso unless he starts playing again and the combined wages ana exits of Bale Moura and Lamela could find a physical RWF, maybe who can help cover for Kane but actually play regularly too.

I am a Jose fan and was happy that if someone had to replace Poch it was him. I even thought we could win the title under him. But there have been too many games like today where we say ah well it's City don't expect anything. Liverpool have doubled us despite clearly being a shadow of last season's team. The team is struggling much of that is on Jose. This is not all on the squad. I am surprised how many posters are trying to make it a squad issue. Many of whom wouldn't give the previous manager the same benefit of the doubt.
