Townsend has scored 5 goals now and he has at least one assist so his numbers stack up well too
I think without Lamella we look better balanced
Against Chelsea and Everton (two of our best performances) we looked great with the attacking three having freedom
Yes he did play against arsenal and yes he did work his socks off
What assist has Lamellas got please as I'm sure at least a couple are corners?

This has been discussed before - the Chadli-Lamela wonky. Because Lamela is so good at pressing and positioning, that gives Chadli a much greater licence to get up closer to Kane.
Lamela won't score as many, and Chadli won't get back as much, but as a pair they balance really well.

No doubt we were a bit lucky. Quite solidly second best in the first half, but much better after getting the goal. Should have had 3 by the time they got one back.

Chadli can be a liability defensively no argument there. I am not trying to underplay Lamela's work rate because it is excellent but he's looked effective when Lamela has or has not played, Chelsea at home being a good example.
I'm interested to see the results when Lamela plays compared to when he does not play. You can use stats to suit an argument one way or the other, but would be interesting all the same.

Just to be pedantic, 4 of Townsend' 5 goals have been penalties which makes his goal scoring feats almost as lopsided as Soldado' last season.
Although I agree that he probably is the better (well less bad) option down the right currently, as he doesn't dither on the ball so much and seems to have finally cut down on those wayward pot shots.

I agree although a Chunk of Lamellas assists are corners too (and Townsends at the weekend was a pen). You canto ignore et pieces as there very much part of the game IMO

Indeed, considering how many penalties Keane + Defoe used to miss and how poor Eriksen' corners tend to be, we shouldn't take for granted how important those set-piece assists and goals can be.

I've noticed this too. For whatever reason, Eriksen and Lamela don't seem to gel when in the same team. Don't know why.
I don't think Eriksen, Chadli and Lamela are a very good combination. They don't compliment each others styles very well. I think Eriksen is here to stay but wouldn't be surprised to see the other two moved on in the Summer or at least lose any regular first team football next season.

Lamela and Towsend have almost similiar contributions now : Lamela 4 goals and 6 assists while Townsend 5 goals and 6 assists in all competitions. But Townsend's contributions are mostly against bottom teams or penalties. His highlight is the penalty against Chelsea. In contrast, Lamela brilliantly created the goal for Chadli at Arsenal and Kane at Liverpool. I am convinced Towsend cannot contribute like that as he probably would have shoot at goal instead of passing.

Both are not very good and yep you could argue that own will get better... But it's still ifs, buts and maybes!!!
Or what about a great solo goal against Swansea - a goal that Lamela could not score against any premier league team? Also townsend has not played nearly as many games so your point in void.
I have really started to grow frustrated at this opinon of 'there's Magic in his boots' or 'he's almost there'..... The guy is not quick or strong enough to do the stuff he tries as an inside forward. As a number 10 he is way too wasteful innpossession and constantly makes wrong decisions or low percentage moves. He is more graceful than townsend for sure, but he is certainly as pig ignorant,
Our 3 behind the striker really lack pace which is why imo townsend should start.
It's also funny how a townsend who has suffered with niggling injuries, looks low on confidence is still a more effective player! At least with LAmela we still have time to develop/sell him but I think I know what will end up happening.
