***OMT Tottenham Hotspur v Brighton, White Hart Lane, Sat April 18th, 5.30pm***

I didn't like the way we celebrated when the second went in - it was like we'd scored a winner with the last kick of the game, not that there was still 20 minutes left to play (including injury time) when the 8 minutes injury time was announced you could see how dismayed half the team was.

Also while the effort was appreciated the quality on show was still poor - for all that intent, we had little in the way of chances created to show for it and poor decisions on the ball cost us from turning possession in to anything threatening - similar to the 0-3 Forest game, but thankfully we managed to score this time before the end of half gut-punch.

We just don't do the simple things. Danso will carry the can for the equalizer, but he should not even be dealing with it. Spence shouldn't be charging up the field to pressure the keeper (and if he does he should bust a gut to get back), Porro should be conservative, Palhinha should not let Mintah get the ball across, Solanke should not be trying to fashion chances in the dying minutes when the corner flag is begging. We don't brick-house properly, we don't break the game up when ahead, I cannot tell if it is nerves or if they have genuinely forgotten how to protect a lead going into added time. As for possession and poor choices, I think the one which really summed it up for me was VdV breaking in the first-half, playing it to Solanke near halfway, steaming ahead and expecting a return only for Solanke to go wide and totally blow the simple wall pass back to a guy thundering along at full-steam into open space. Remarkable.
 
Udogie had one where he cut inside in the first half and had a simple pass trough with 2 players in space outside their area yet he chose to dribble and lost the ball. There were a few missed opportunities to play the ball into space behind their defence. Hopefully Maddison can manage 15 to 20 minutes next week, his vision and passing could be the difference v Wolves and going on from there.
 
The last 2 posts sums up our squad this season. There just generally seems to be a lack of footballing brains. I dont know if it was desperation but as said, Solanke should have headed for the corner not try to cut inside. And Udogie does it all the time, carries the ball instead of releasing the simple pass. But its not just the players the whole season has been a complete mish mash of poor decisions at every level of the club and it increasingly looks like they are going to cost us dearly

It will be interesting to see the fan perception of Spence at the end of this season. Some fans were absolutely idolising him for the 2 to 3 years that he's been at the club. He's had a loads of love on the pod as well. I've even read fans write that he's the best defender we've got out of our full-backs.

For me, its guys like Djed being the reason that we're going down. He struggles to get up for games. He doesn't cross the white line with anywhere near the right attitude. He's constantly lackadaisical. It's simply not about talent with him. It runs a lot deeper and I don't think he's going to change anytime soon.

He's chalk and cheese to a Kyle Walker or Pedro Porro. He's becoming an Aurier.

That public show of disrespect towards Frank in November was unprofessional. Whatever you think of Frank, it also said a lot about Spence (and VDV).

What I would say though is that football teams rarely go from dire to great. They are improving under RDZ and we may have to take that small mercy for now hoping we can still pull off not getting relegated. Not to mention, Brighton are the in form team in the league.

I'm not sure whether we got a straight draw or a winning draw but we didn't deserve to lose. That is progress.

Yeah that was my first thought when they celebrated - however, I can't blame them, they have been working hard and are desperate to get the wins and they care as much as we do - I don't buy any of the players don't care nonsense.

As for the performance, it was decent. You are never going to get stellar performances from the get go when the players confidence is shot to pieces. There are clear incremental improvements, and de Zebri wasn't lying when he said he liked a lot of these players - he is a far more suited manager than Frank ever was for this club.

We completely fudged it up in the summer, and when given a gift opportunity to get de Zebri in we fudged it up again and got in Tudor. I'm looking forward to next season anyway whatever league we are in, will be more of a fun watch with this manager.....

Yeah, how I feel.

I think fans spend a lot of time focusing on player ability and don't get to see the player attitude and application outside of matchday. This is where RDZ will come into his own. He will expect those players to be like him. That should take the player standards up over time.

I thought solanke was very guilty of it, a couple of times he could have fed xavi but held onto the ball.

I think it's fair to say that if we had appointed De Zerbi a couple of months earlier, we wouldn't be in that situation. It could be as good as over by the end of the weekend, if Forest and West Ham win their games. Most important thing is to win a game now, regardless of what happens next. At least, we led twice and even if our football was disjointed at times, there's a glimmer of what could happen if De Zerbi is given time...

How we could’ve done with a wise old head to calm things down, like when Højbjerg stopped Bergwijn from jumping into the crowd to celebrate his late winner at Leicester which would’ve resulted in a him getting a 2nd yellow card.

I felt so gutted for him, feel like he's had a lot of criticism this season (much of it justified) but in my view he's slowly improved throughout the season. There was one moment after the equaliser where it panned to him and he was almost in tears - really sad. Deserved to be the winning goal.

Palhina cannot, cannot, let Minteh get that ball across or away. Yes, Danso's mistake was awful but he is a limited player who is always heavy-footed and awkward when running onto balls/into moments like that; IF just does what he CAN do there (welly it) great. But fatigue will do that.
There's been a lot of naivety in that final 5 minutes which has led to the mistake. Let's face it, we got away with one a minute before on the back-post...

it was the same in the first half, brain dead play, 2 minutes left and at worst the ball should be out for a throw in the Brighton half

Solanke not only gave the ball away, he played Tel(?) in who was miles off side. idiots.

He has always been a poor player, when he first came in he just wasnt as bad/injured as the rest of the squad.

One of (the only?) plus point of going down is we will shed these players quicker than we normally would if we stayed in the PL due to them thinking they are PL players and not wanting a pay cut

The PL said before this season they'd be clamping down on shirt pulling and the grabs at corners etc but I've not seen any evidence of it.
