Next seasons squad

Selling Richarlison and Solanke in the same window is risky but they both need to go as neither are reliable from a fitness standpoint and neither have the required quality we need.

We’ll have to agree to disagree about Romero, he’s been a part of a defence that has conceded circa 60 goals for four seasons in a row. Not to mention his poor disciplinary record and insistence on prioritising Argentina over Spurs.

We’ll also have to disagree on Tel. If he’s one of the best prospects in Europe then I fear for European football. If any of the current crop of forwards are starting for us next season then we’re going to be in trouble again.

My list of players to sell is partly wishful thinking but it doesn’t change the fact that we’re going to need the biggest clear-out we’ve likely seen at Spurs in the PL era.
Your whole basis for removing players seems driven by the performance of the side under managers with questionable tactics - Ange was never going to make Romero look good, any more than Frank was going to turn Solanke into a 25 goal a season man.

Solanke is capable under the right manager of getting goals. It's been shown before. His injuries have been limited to us and mainly this season so I fail to see how he can be grouped with Richie who is far more renowned for his injury issues. Either way he can't be sold, as he represents a home grown player, of a high standard, who when paired with a manager who works well with him, produces. That's guaranteed relegation mindset doing that.

If you can find me an instance of Romero prioritising the national side over us, that wasn't concocted by the media for a week when it's quiet, I'm all ears. He could have left last summer but stayed. He could have bailed in the madness that was the only player in the Argentina squad who didn't get a pay rise when they won the world cup. He could have not dragged us more or less single handedly to the first trophy in the recent history of the club. If you want to believe the rhetoric, feel free, but bear in mind that this is a media lead by Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and ah Wazza Rooney. Hardly footballing brainiacs. You don't hear Linkeker saying anything negative about him...

Tel is on the cusp of getting it. Of understanding his role. Of course we could sell him, like we were about to sell Bale to Coventry for £5m. He's a kid with one full season in this league. Let him be managed by a guy who made Trossard, mitoma and MacAllister into top class forwards.

If you think we are clearing out then you're deluded mate. We will add four or five and lose a similar number, likely Vicario, Davies, Dragusin, Bissouma and Richie. The new faces will be aimed at improving the first 11 not being squad players, that is the difference I expect.

I am in agreement except for Romero... just feel this is the time to part ways

There's an awful lot of people on here kneejerking based on performances with poor coaching and tactics. We just got eleven points from seven games, coming from a position of no confidence, no creators, no home wins and no hope. With four or five players in key positions, signed to become first teamers not squad players, we will transform under a good coach. It may be 7/8th next season but it will be progressive and forward thinking football, with the best being wrung out of the likes of VDV, Madders, Kudus and Tel.

We need to be ruthless. This squad needs absolutely gutting. He doesn’t get in the midfield of any top 6 team.
No we don't need to be ruthless. That is a guarantee of relegation. We need to be considered and buy quality, not go out and wholesale buy a new team. Our manager and saviour has just left one club that throws the baby out with the bathwater every season, if we want progress we need to build on the good bits of this squad, of which, with proper coaching, there's plenty.

Sure but we’re also not signing 17 players. If Bentancur becomes a rotational player over the next 1-2 seasons that’s a good place to be in.

Big time. Walker, Rose, Dembele & Kane were all deemed to be not good enough prior to Poch joining.

Even though Bruno has said he agreed personal terms and was coming until the Sporting chairman changed his mind at the last minute?

Why do some Spurs fans think they know more than Bruno Fernandes about this transfer?!:D
We agreed wages with Bruno we never agreed a fee with Sporting.

Agreed. I’m not advocating buying a whole new team, and was largely agreeing with the list of those to be kept in the poll, which is relatively long, given we’ve finished just outside the relegation places for two years running.

We do need to get rid of those who have shown themselves to be average or unreliable (and, in Romero’s case, brain-dead) over a relatively long period. And we need to be ruthless in doing it.

For me, Bentancur is one, as was evidenced again in his poor performance against Chelsea a week ago.

It’s all about opinions though!

Edit: I’ve just noticed Solanke doesn’t appear at all on the list. He needs to go too. 😀
