Milos Veljkovic

There can be problems with this injury, my mother fell on the ice, dislocated her shoulder, later in A&E in x-rays she also fractured the ball socket and infact the ball stayed in the socket and broke away from the arm, later was in surgery having pins. Have also heard of part of the structure around the ball socket fracturing also.
That was my thought also. Must be more than just a dislocated shoulder, as that itself is not a serious injury that would keep someone out for a long period.

According to the Beeb, the injury's bad enough to require surgery.

"He wanted to try the rehabilitation route, rather than the surgical one, but the damage is quite severe," Charlton physio Erol Umut told the club website.

"It's a bad one and the shoulder is unstable now. He has been advised by the Tottenham medical staff, as well as the shoulder specialist, that the best thing for him to do is have an operation.

"This, unfortunately, means that his season is all but over because those kind of injuries normally take around nine to 12 weeks to come back from."

Yeah looks like what I said, he has either fractured the bone around the ball socket or the ball socket has fractured away from the arm, which allowed the arm to come away. Pins needed.

Damn, he's one I can see slotting into Poch's system with sufficent experience given his versatility, skill on the ball and energy levels. I hope he has a smashing pre-season, then, and it's a shame about his injury.

Back from injury tonight for the u21s. I want to see him given a proper run out before the end of the season.

Would be a shame. Seems ideally suited for me to move up to become our 4th CB (allowing us to sell Fazio) + extra CM cover

On what basis? I have watched him play for the under 21s a few times and on each occasion he hasn't really looked good enough to me. It may well be that he'll become good enough in time, but I wouldn't want him in our first team facing top level footballers currently.

Because in his peer group he's one of the outstanding defenders internationally. Him and 2CV were apparently the outright best defenders at the U20 WC last summer.

It seems silly to throw that away over a contract/loan dispute.

That is an interesting observation considering the fact that his coach feels he is too good for our under 21 team

The u20 age bracket is a little misleading as it comprises of players that don't typically get a look in for the u21's - so whilst 17(?) year old 2CV's performances can be used as a good barometer as he would have been up against players older than him - the much older Veljkovic doesn't really stand out as at his age he should be playing for the u21's

That could be off the mark though as I'm going by something I've read a while back

You will always get a few talented players who do not suit a managers requiements. WindyCoys seems to believe he doesn't play with enough intensity for Pochs liking so we may well lose out on him. Still reckon he will end up being a very good player somewhere.

He is currently captain of our under 21 team

It's quite possible that he is. That doesn't make him good enough to be playing centre half for our first team however. The standard of under 21 football is pretty average, the games are played with very little intensity. There is a big gap between under 21 football and first team football. I would want to see Velkojvic properly dominating under 21 games before I considered him for the first team and I haven't seen that in any of the games that I have watched. My thoughts are that a loan to the Championship or even League 1 and a regular starting place in a team would be great for him, but it doesn't seem as though that will happen.

We may end up regretting letting the player go in years to come, but IMO we're not the right club for his development currently. The player needs games at a lower level to progress. It may be that we have explained this to him and tried to put things in place but the player himself doesn't want to play at a lower level? I am friendly with a few in the coaching set up at Spurs so will try to find out the story here.

I don't know much about this kid, but I think it's inevitable that we'll be forced to sell some of our promising youngsters when we have so much young talent in our squad already. It's not the worst position to be in, though. Rather this, than no talent at all.

But Fazio is the player currently taking his squad position as our 4th CB.

And our next generation CBs (2CV and Maghoma) are a couple of years younger and nowhere near ready.

It's not like say Carroll, where Winks is very directly overtaking him.

Fair enough. Like I said, I don't know enough about him to rate him properly. Maybe Poch for some reason believes Fazio to be a better option. It's also a matter of looking at the squad as a whole - I think there needs to be a good balance between experience and youth.

I think that you have to put your faith in Poch and trust his judgement. He has been a pretty astute judge of character so far.

His reasons for not fancying Veljkovic maybe as much to do with off field reasons than for his performances on it.

Veljkovic is the real deal, very talented player.

I wouldn't sell him, we should be looking for a quality loan for him.
