Mighty Spurs vs. Emirates Marketing Project

Pep Guardiola has lauded Mauricio Pochettino as one of world’s best managers as he prepares Emirates Marketing Project, the leaders, to take on second-placed Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

City have won all six of their Premier League games while Spurs are four points behind. Guardiola is as admirer of Pochettino and his Tottenham side, having also come up against the Argentinian when he coached Espanyol and the Catalan managed Barcelona.

Then, in February 2009, Pochettino inflicted Barça’s first derby defeat in 27 years when beating them 2-1 at Camp Nou.

“We played against Pochettino as players and then as coaches. I think he’s one of the best managers in the world – I enjoy watching Tottenham,” said Guardiola.

“He’s doing an amazing job in London at Spurs. The way they play I like a lot – they’re aggressive and have a lot of quality. The basis of the team is the national team with [Dele] Alli, [Kyle] Walker, [Harry] Kane – they have a lot of quality. Last season they were there until the last couple of games for the championship.

“This year they’re playing at a high level – they’re in second position so it will be a tough game and I’m looking forward to going to White Hart Lane for the first time in my life. We will try and do our job.

“All of the fans who like football and watch football can enjoy [Spurs] – they’re proactive, not reactive. There are many teams who wait to see what you do and then react – they don’t wait to see what they’re going to do. They want to create their own game. That’s why I like them. When I saw the last game against CSKA, against Liverpool, against Middlesbrough, I like what I’m watching.”

A load of old flannel, I don't believe a word of it!

We smashed them last season and then they got a scare against Celtic. They'll be fired up for this. I'd take a draw now and I don't say that very often.

Get that logic 100% but we're on a great one too and wanna put down a marker so we should be well up for this too

Should be a cracker of a game

As I said earlier all I want is a fair ref and us to play to the best of our abilities (so no excuses)

You can bet Poch has been studying the celtic game, simple really, high -line, extra midfielder, don't give them any time on the ball, bit of luck but they were held. That uncertainty with them has come at just the right time for us, we can win on sunday.
COYS.

It's the old Fergie trick, flatter us to the heavens in the media then say to his players 'Lads, it's Spurs.'

Infuriatingly it seemed to work every time.

no i don't think so.

i think pep does really respect poch. of course the situtaion right now is that pep as one of the best coaches in the world can afford to be magnanimous.

Just an FYI for those travelling by train. No Abellio GA trains stopping at Northumberland Park or Tottenham Hale tomorrow. Trains stopping at White Hart Lane station instead (and Seven Sisters). Will make the journey home a bit of a pain.

Will be a high pressure game. Hopefully the crowd can help us. Lift the team. We don't have a stable side, but lots of players who are match sharp. Have we played the same team twice recently? We need fit determined players and to finish our chances!

Hopefully the calibre of their team and manager, helps us raise our game. Regardless of the result - it could go either way - I want to see us look like we are confident, in control, and not afraid of them. We've seen this team capitulate under pressure, now they need to perform under the spot light.

^ good article though i think that poch is modifying his system of play this season - slower, more patient, less pressing up front.

this is still what we have to beware though:

If our press is as undisciplined as that and our midfield as wide open then we deserve everything we get. But I don't think it will be.
