That isn't necessarily so, players sometimes pick smaller teams over other, look at VDV could have easily gone to a bigger club and got paid alot more money.

And perhaps he wants some assurance around the playing time / role at the club. If he feels he needs to rebuild his reputation I’m not sure fighting for his place in a team even with our depth would be attractive. Stoke seemed to sign a few players like this, with contrasting results.
