I can't believe people are critical of him given the position he holds, whatever answer he could give would put him in the brick.
Anyone in a senior post has 2 options go along with company policy even if you don't agree with it or quit. Some will say try and change things from inside, good luck with that, the business world is not a Christmas film.

He’s also been a millionaire for nearly 30 years and a multi millionaire for a decade. Expecting him to be some voice of the people is utter delusion.

He's been calling for fans to show up at games! Then says extortionate prices are not his problem. Bad attitude.

He could have said something along the line that football should be affordable for the fans, but he's not in a position to influence current prices.
That would be "following company lines" AND adding some sympathy to the fans.

If you were dealing with normal people your suggestion would be an option but Trump and FIFA are resentful dictators and will crush anyone who is not onboard.
