Matija Nastasic

vkn17

Peter Taylor
City are about to sign Mangala and the rumours say they are ready to let Nastasic go.

If this is true we should go all out to sign him. Proven in PL, only 21 and would cost less than Musacchio. Arsenal apparently preparing a bid. ](*,)

city should be smarter than to sell to a direct competitor, or are they that arrogant?

Arsenal are not a direct rival, nor will be for the foreseeable future (till City's current owners get bored). Chelsea and perhaps United are their only direct rivals.

I would usually agree with this but Arsenal have recruited well this transfer window and will probably be strongest they have been in a long time this season. Signing Nastasic would make them even stronger.

He barely played last season, not sure Pellegrini's a fan and if Mangala does join then it'll probably leave Nastasic as 4th choice. We should be all over it, you don't try you don't get etc.

I think that would be incredibly arrogant.... Other than Sagna - Arsenal have largely the same squad that finished 4th last season and were leading the way for a while - that was with Walcott and (more importantly) Ramsey injured. They have added Sanchez and are potentially adding Khediera.

Their weakness is at centre half when either of Mertesacker or Koschielny are out. If City help strengthen Arsenal then they could regret it.

Really liked the look of him in his first season, what happened last season? Injuries? Second Season Syndrome? Still very young and definitely worth a punt if he's for sale.

Yeah, it would be arrogant. Forget Arsenal, it appears the top 4 are even careful of strengthening us. It does appear for example that Chelsea followed a policy of not only not selling players to us but also of poaching our targets to prevent us strengthening.

Being a successful business is about doing the best yourselves whilst also doing everything you can to harm the competition.

We might not be competition but we're often kept that way by the spending/selling habits of the top dogs.

Like you say if City hand Arsenal a promising 21 year old in their weakest position, it could come back to bite them.

wow...i think it was 2 seasons ago when he was really good? crazy i thought it was last season.

Yeah he was superb then, probably the best young CB in the world along with Varane. Last season he had a few injuries and Pellegrini was happy with Kompany and Demichelis as his pairing so Nastasic barely got a look in, now it seems they're bringing in Mangala. I haven't watched him but I've a read a little on him and he sounds like he's all athleticism at this point, I prefer CBs like Nastasic personally.

me too. just realized they played Demichelis a lot instead.. that's a bit mental when you think about how good Nastasic was the year before

Arsenal should definitely be considered a rival by City. Before the season starts you cannot say that Arsenal don't have a reasonable shot at the title.
