Lucas Bergvall

I’ll probably take some brick for this but has Bergvall ever really had a good game for us? I can’t remember one and I still don’t know what sort of player he is.

He obviously has talent and he’s young but I’m not too bothered if he goes. I’ve seen a lot more from Gray for example. Gray had a spell under Tudor particularly (the AM second leg being the pinnacle) where I could see what he can become. Bergvall? Not so much.

Didn't look like he wanted to be on the pitch yesterday, was awful. I wonder if there's more to the Toon move than just X rumour and he was trying not to get inured, so took it easy, Basically walking at stages during the game.

I don't understand the hype with Bergvall honestly. Not gonna bog down the thread but I just don't see it.

Nice to see we agree on something player-wise ha 😉

If he was a 10 where it wouldn't matter so much if he lost the ball, but to me Bergvall's whole vibe is doing high risk things in low yield situations. Dembele did that but would keep the ball 96 times out of 100, Bergvall isn't quite hitting those same numbers.

Teams won't judge him on just one game but it wasn't a great display of his talents.

He had some good games in the Europa League winning season. He is not a DM. His worst games have come for us in that role. I think Gallagher and him should swap roles on the pitch.

Last season people complained that he wasn't a 10 when Frank played him there. Truthfully his attributes are unbalanced so there's no position he suits right now.

He has the ability to beat his man so AM should suit, but he has no passing vision or range to open up the game or pass through the lines once he's beaten this man. So in the AM he's really just relying on getting shots off. If he scores them then he'll be lauded as a great AM even without the creativity side of things but if he's not scoring or offering any direct threat himself the same complaints that were made about him in the 10 last season will reoccur.

Tbh I think he needs to go back into the oven because his development as a player is no where near complete and he isn't ready for PL games for us.

Well that first half has probably knocked about £10m off his transfer value… hopefully it doesn’t take Bergvall another 2 years to realise that continuing to give the ball away in his own 3rd will be punished by PL level opposition…

After 80 odd PL appearances I would have hoped he’d have worked it out by now tbh.

For me he is not a great tackler, does not have an up and down engine and his shooting is average. But he is young. Yesterdays performance showed a lack of speed of thought and the 2nd goal instead of playing it safe he tried to nick it. As RDZ has said, he wont do that again ( hopefully ) but it was really worrying to see this kind of performance from him. Maybe he feels he is just keeping the place warm for Fernandez but he needs to show he can hold onto that position.

Seems to me he has gone backwards in his general play. For whatever reason he is not showing the same as he did when he first came here. Sometimes that happens to young players but he has regressed for sure.

I absolutely picked up on his vibe, yes. Strange.

I feel that maybe we're at that stage where he needs a fresh start and a new adventure at a club where he can be him? Yesterday he looked unenthused, and I could not figure out if it is because he was being asked to play a role he didn't feel comfortable playing, or if his heart is not with us anymore?

Err sorry to tell you Roberto but yes he probably will, it's a facet of his game. It's going to take a hell of a lot of re-training of his brain for him to do something that goes against his instincts.
He's only 20. He can, and should, learn from coaching and experience. He'll learn when and where to do what he does.

Maybe not really feeling desired or maybe trying to play more controlled. It might have inhibited his enthusiasm. Pressure on his place which is a good thing for him, probably paying on his mind.

He needs to buckle down and really understand what want we want and need from him and he needs to work on that.

Along with the poor defensive display, his reaction was also a big concern. We need big characters for these moments and he seems to be a bit sulky when things don’t go for him.

This is not based on one game but his total time at the club, and I would be happy to cash in on him and make room for Gray to get more time in midfield.

Hes a player that hasnt really lived up to his hype. I wont say potential as that is subjective. Like someone said earlier, i cant remember him ever having a game thats made me think he's top drawer.
If its true that Forest or Saudi Sportswashing Machine bid 40 mill for him we should definately have taken that deal.
