João Palhinha

Anyone heard any news on Joao? I’m actually annoyed we’ve not tied this one up and by the amount of time that’s passed, it looks unlikely now
Or alternatively, maybe we are so confident that he wants to sign for us that we can focus on the other signings and add some pressure on Bayern to give us a discount... pure speculation

Off to Sporting for 25M supposedly ..
Shame. I think he’s a big loss, and after RDZ waxing lyrical about his abilities I’m a little surprised we’ve let him go

Alternatively I'm surprised that after Palhinha waxing lyrical about "who wouldn't want to play for Spurs' he's decided that he would rather play for Sporting.
If we’re not in for him what can he do? He’ll want play somewhere. I’ve seen nothing that makes me think he prefers Sporting over us

Who says were weren't in for him? According to the 'Cartilage Free Captain' website (and not being fluent in Portuguese I'll have to rely on them) the article linked above says "Spurs attempted to trigger his purchase option after the conclusion of his loan to Tottenham, but that Palhinha has reportedly chosen to return to Sporting in order to be closer to his family".

Fair enough if that’s the case then good luck to him

Can applaud that to some extent. Came here, became a season hero, wants to spend time with family.

Fair play
Although he'll be a long time retired. At 31 you think he'd maybe fancy one or two more years at the highest level he can manage. Then move his family back to his hometown. Unless he can seriously feel his legs going and is keeping ahead of the curve

I thought he’d split up with his Mrs and she took them back to Portugal. So don’t think he’s got much say in moving them…

I could have that rumor wrong though. Don’t shoot the messenger.

Apparently when he went to Bayern from Fulham his wife didn't go with him and now they are divorced but when he came to Spurs he mentioned how glad he was to be back with his family so it's all bit of a mystery what is going on . No doubt Sporting will get him cheaper than if we wanted him , according to Transfermarkt Sporting's record outlay on a player is 30 million euros doubt they will want to spend that much on a 30/31 year old , our buy option was reportedly 30 million euros let's see how much Sporting lay out if that is where he ends up.
