ITK

Trix with something to chuckle at:

Another smallish update...........

Big Sam really wants to take Andros, and has lodged the most solid interest for him so far although others are sniffing. Told re the Striker situation... We know we are in need of a striker now but it is important we feel whoever we bring in January can hit the ground running, that means someone with experience of English football Dembele is being looked at.

Oh and Berahino is definitely still target if a deal can be worked out, MP does still want him!

Ohhh some ITK. Re. Dembele, can see why would be interested given his height. Can only see him as a second purchase behind another CF signing.

If one is Dembele I can see two - as Dembele is little more than potential

If we want to cement top 4, we know this season has to be it, so bringing in a solid Kane option as well as "one for the future" makes sense.
It's unlikely Dembele will hit the ground running like Alli - especially mid season. But getting him into the squad and club mentality will stand him in good stead

Yeah, you can't expect a kid to be thrown in up front and be good enough. It can happen, but you can't expect it. I think we need someone with decent pedigree in a good league, whoever that may be. Presumably someone we've not mentioned, as usual!

I really cannot see us signing two CF on permanent deals in January when we only play one up front and have three or four players in the squad who can cover there. Maybe we would consider signing Dembele and loaning him back for the rest of the season and bringing in someone on loan.

Which 3 or 4 players can cover there? Njie and Son at a stretch.. We need 2 new forwards at least imo.

We just need 1 more senior CF. If we supplement that with an 18 year old CF for the future then great as those sort of signing are always exciting. But we only need one more first-team CF, but DO definitely need one

Agree. I mentioned this weeks ago re Dembele and Negredo. Obviously Negredo is out of the question now, but there might be another Saha out there to loan in ,who would allow us to sign Dembele and then loan him back out for 6 months

You can't have 3 senior players for 1 position (especially when Kane will play 85% of games).

That's like having 3 RBs or 6 CBs.

Kane + Ramirez/Dembele/Afobe + Son + Njie is more than ample.

Lamela and Chadli can also cover there. We don't have three specialists for any other single position, why should CF be any different?

It's really unfortunate that at a time when we are stocked with midfielders and short on strikers, we have so many midfield prospects in the academy and no striker prospects. Oh well, could be worse. Could have had zero prospects, regardless of position.

It's why we're signing that Shilow Tracey. To effectively replace Azzaoui in the age group above Harrison and co.

I've never seen Lamela play as a lone striker and Chadli did it poorly when called upon in the past.. Njie seems to have problems with injuries, so I wouldn't mind getting two competing strikers in for Kane's role.

If that's a youngster and an established striker, then so be it.. But I think we need two at the very least.

Lamela was the furthest forward frequently in our home game against Monaco (he was rotating with Son and N'Jie).

How many games would you expect a third choice striker to get in our current set up? Particularly in the second half of the season where there are less easy games to give fringe players game time.

Not many but I'd still prefer a striker rather than move someone out of position... Particularly someone like Lamella would has been one of our better performers

Because CF is different. It is a specialist position and key to the way we play. I saw an analysis that said if we were to lose Kane, we would lose as many as 10 points between now and the end of the season - the most costly of the loss of any single player to any team in the EPL. That is why we need cover for him urgently. You cannot just make do and mend with such a vital position.
