So on return from a trip my laptop has bugged out and is asking for a BitLocker code, ive been through a whole process and I cant track it down. Is there a way I can reboot my laptop so I dont need it or can override it
Yeh, weirdly that doesnt work for meIs it Windows asking for your recovery key? If so you can normally get them from Microsoft's website if you login:
Find your BitLocker recovery key - Microsoft Support
Learn how to find your BitLocker recovery key in Windows.support.microsoft.com
Thanks, think that confirms its fcuked. Not sure what the hell happened to it for it to happen. Looks like I need a new oneIf it is a work device then provided your admins are worth their salt, they should be able to pull from Azure.
There was a url even ours weren't aware of when it happened to me ages back, but I'd need to be at work to get that - and there is zero guarantee it will work, I think I was very lucky with that.
If it is a personal device, I think it is just bad news for you.
You can boot the laptop from another drive or usb stick, but it will do you no good - your BL'd drive will remain locked. Unless you can find the usb that you may have saved the info to, then.....
Ever since my tangle with it I make sure I have a photo of the key from cmd line (manage-bde -protectors -get c: ) so I am not reliant upon MS backup policies and the company having it in Azure.
Not what you want to read..
Im self employed mate, so stuffed hahahaBitlocker is pretty solid. Your admin will have it in AD if it's networked.
You are the bloody adminIm self employed mate, so stuffed hahaha

I was just having fun with the assumption you had a 'team'....when, if you're self employed you wear all the hats.Yeh but I don't have the bitlocker code anywhere and I don't throw anything away. Tried every trick, every suggestion and nada.
Good excuse to get a new one now, 2 and half years, thats about right
I'm getting better at moving on from things....I used to 'think' ..I will not be beaten, I can work it out, there's a solution somewhere BUT you do have to draw the line and weigh up the time and energy you put into something and also recognizing the benefits a new device might give you.Good excuse to get a new one now, 2 and half years, thats about right

Although I will then spend a load of time researching and investigating new said device![]()
