Hip hop help

Akala is a massive gooner and has been doing my head in with his posts these past few days on FB - considering deleting him from my ipod on the strength of it :D

Prefer this version of The Seed:

Slightly OT, has the classic Grand Master Flash sample (worth getting this track in itself Close to the Edge, one of the first assertive hip hop tracks "don't push me I'm close to the edge, I'm trying not to loose my head") You're in for a treat:

Nice find Billy. With this one above, that's 3 all pretty good versions. Hip Hop more than probably any other music genre relies on samples /covers.

One more:

Most UK Hip Hop/Grime acts are either Spurs fans or Gooners. I think that Wiley is quite a big spurs fan.

To be fair to Akala, when Ars*nal were going through their slump earlier in the season, he was quite vocal about the knee-jerking Goons so he seems like a level-headed guy.

I seriously think that his storytelling ability, and his raps in general are better than 99% of what's out there.

I think Sway is a Spurs fan as well

i guess it's down to me to recommend The Roots

This version of The Seed is awesome

My favourite Roots track is this - a reaction to the materialism in Hip Hop at the time

The original video had subtitles that explained all of the cliches that they were criticising, but can't find that video on youtube anywhere

I think this clip belongs in this thread - Coachella 2012 - Tupac and Snoop "reunited" back on stage together. Snoop joins at 2.38

here's the second part of the 16 minute 'track' it comes under on the album - was a jam session for the BBC i believe (Home Grown volume 2) worth picking up if you like the band

I love the old school stuff some people have mentioned...and yes, P.E's "It Takes A Nation of Millions..." is, IMHO, a fudging brilliant album...
It's nowt on MC Pitman's "It Takes a Nation of Tossers"!

Wow, I really have to apologise for starting this thread and then completely forgetting about it and not even acknowledging one post! Sorry about that - appreciate all the suggestions and will get cracking!!

Anyone got the new Nas album? Really really impressive - this guy has had a 20 year career and keeps making hip hop that is better than 99% of the stuff out there

Public Enemy - Yo! Bum Rush the Show and It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back
Erik-B & Rakim - Paid in Full
LL Cool J - Radio
Beastie Boys - Licensed to Ill
De La Soul - 3 Feet High and Rising
Run-D.M.C. - King of Rock

Yer that is the motherload.
And I would also add
Monie Love

Yes, another great album from the legend. I'm so gutted, won free tickets to see him play in London but it clashes with being on holiday. So wanted to see him :(
