Harry Kane MBE

Are we getting to the point now where we all start to try to convince ourselves that the player isn't very good in the first place like we did when Walker, Berbatov, Robbie Keane, etc wanted to leave?

Nope we are not. Very good player.

Thick as two short planks which is why he does not want to move abroad.

It strikes me that it is actually a really good time to sell him. You'll need to bear with me on this but the reasons I see are:

1. His ankles.
2. His contracted value to the club
3. Our over reliance on him
4. The scope £150m would give a manager to shape a new Tottenham.

1 - the ankles - he's now missed what - 30 games in 3 seasons due to ankle injuries? A couple more as he gets closer to the magic 3-0 and he will be missing half a season after a knock - or worse get a serious ligament issue and spend 12 months on the side lines.
2. - his value - he's just had the best season of any previously - his game is more complete, his finishing lethal - that makes him THE hottest property in Europe right now, on a par only with Haaland who is a phenomenon. Today we could ask and get £150m+ from one of the oil clubs. Next year it will be lower, and the year after its final year of contract time.
3. We are absurdly, stupidly dependant on him. Each time he gets injured we all collectively sh*t ourselves and hide behind the sofa. There's not many clubs that are that reliant on one player - Liverpool and Van Dyk is about the only example I can think of right now - Wolves/Jiminez and Saints/Ings I guess are close too. We need a strong squad, not a team built around one guy.
4. -cash for a manager - If we bring in a manager whose job, like Rodgers has done at the Foxes, is to get all parts of the team performing better, and not building a team around one player, then we're not badly placed. We have a superb academy and plenty of depth up top in forward positions. We lack an out and out No9 if Kane goes, but would have the funds to secure one. Both Ings and Jiminez actually would work well following that philosophy.

Kickers player for a long time because, they don't get hit, unlike Harry Kane who has been getting hit for 20 years plus by then. A bit arrogant to think you can walk into an elite sport specialist position at 35 in a spet you have never played before.
England, like spurs, have a good team on paper, and like spurs flatter to deceive.

I don't think England have ever flattered actually.

Well he clearly has an ego (nothing wrong with that) but I still say we can use that to our advantage and make him player manager on £500k pw. Mason as assistant along with some other experienced coaches and Rangnick as DoF

The dependence on him is unhealthy
For him and the team
But it does happen with world class players

I don't think he has the leg for an NFL kicker myself.

Not to mention that even kickers are specialists who have years of training and experience before they hit the NFL. Also, average career length isn't as long as you'd think, only 5/6 years, I expect it's quite boring with such a limited number of plays to worry about.
1. Have a leg like a traction engine
2. Not freeze up and lose your technique.

Surely they are the only requirements for an NFL kicker? Harry has shown with his penalty taking that he has item 2 covered.

And how many of those targets will he hit?
So far at 28 he has hit none. So he needs to work bloody hard to get there.
Don’t you think that he would do better to set two realistic, achievable targets and work on them?.
Its reflected in the conversation about dropping deep. Neville asks, who decided that. Harry answers me, I'm good enough so I do it. He might well be right, but it doesn't mean it's the correct thing to do. It's wasted energy (and not great for the team imo), the wrong focus.
He's not superman, about time he realised that.

He has hit none because he plays for Spurs and we've under-invested in the playing squad relative to what someone of his calibre deserves.

He has come from being on loan in the lower leagues to being the best striker in the world. What exactly is the problem with how he has motivated himself? He has done more than enough to justify his approach. That he has been limited to not achieving more is entirely the reason he now wants to leave the club.

Again, he's under contract to us. We will sell when we want.
Tbh I would sell him ASAP, that interview sucks on so many levels. If almost any other player had come out with stuff like that he'd be a laughing stock.
I want to be like Messi or Ronaldo, really, two guys that routinely dragged their teams to victory in big games.
I think I can score 60-70 goals a season, well you've really never been that close so what's happened there?
I ve got 7-8 years left at the top, not if you go throwing yourself into stupid tackles and playing every minute of every game, especially meaningless Internationals.
Maybe Daniel Levy will be happy to take £100m for. What for player who claims he can do all of the above.
That's a car crash interview, and if I was in our dressing room I'd be having words, especially if I was lucas Moura. We played more half the quarters and all the semis without Harry Kane to get him to the biggest game and he didn’t turn up.

Could not agree more with all of that, Should have kept his big mouth shut until the season ends and then blab off as much as he wants.

It gives more time for levy and Co to get offers on the table. Instead of the last minute of the window shutting to get in the likes of frazier Campbell.... oh wait

Yeah plus the covid-factor should mean new players are perhaps cheaper than two years ago.

I hate to say it, but part of me would enjoy watching a more balanced team.

I have no problem with him wanting to go elsewhere to actually win things and i have said that many times over the last couple of years. My feeling about him coming out with this gonad*s two games before the end of the season is that he should have kept his mouth shut until those games were played. Coming out before which were two important games for us must have done wonders for the team moral ( not that there has been much of that with s ome of the rabble we have at the moment). He deserves credit for what he has done over the years but he was way out of order bringing it to the boil before those two important games.

I think Kane’s answer to that would probably be that no one tries to win more, and has done more to help us win this season than he has.

I dunno, I get the upset, but I think it’s so clear he deserves better and whatever he needs to do to get out, I say good luck to him. We have a group of players that have not performed this year when he has been elite, as usual, and so if this interview is used as an excuse to under perform yet again, I still back Harry. He deserves better.

sorry really can't agree.
we were the best team in the league for two years. even taking the not winning out of it, wheres the 60-70 goals?
he is obviously super motivated, i would say to detriment of his game. setting unachievable goals never helped any one.
and i really don't like this narrative that everyone is letting harry kane down.
did his squad mates that got through three games in the cl to get him to the final let him down, or did he let them down by not turning up?

Agree to disagree here. He’s elite, he’s one of the best in the world, and if he wants to aim for 50 goals in a season, I say good luck to him.

Do not disagree with that, but that does not excuse him blabbing to the press what he has before what were TWO important games. Do the fudging interview once the season is finished not when there was still s omething to play for.

Having lower dependancy on one person's form and ankle would be good. If we could replace him with 2 £50m CFs and a £50m RW (and who were in their early 20s), you could argue that we'd be in a better position. Question is whether our wonderous scouts can identify good players in those price ranges
