Persic is historically a forward, a very good one long before a WB so I doubt it was settling for a draw.

Did you not see the lack of threat from Son? He literally got the ball into advanced areas more in 10 mins than Son.
There was zero threat on that side before Persic came on. Son was poor and played everything backwards. Perisic was much more positive in his play.

I doubt the intention was for nothing to come of it. Perisic has a fantastic cross on him and we were clamping in their own half and box at times. Bringing on a pin point crosser makes a lot of sense in that situation. It didn't work, but it wasn't for a lack of trying.

We still have of footballs truly world class left footed players in Perisic if he is used to his strengths. He is still supremely fit and might not be as quick as he once was but his legs are far from gone, yet I would say he is no longer able to fulfil a FB role he probably should never have been asked to be in at 33. He still managed 8 assists last year in what was a poor season.
It was a sound decision and could be a useful option off the bench this season
