Everton

Ronald Koeman and his wife are sleeping when the alarmclock rings. "Time to get up, dear....it`s six". Koeman jumps up; "Have they scored AGAIN??!!"

Can we rename this thread?

How much of a threat of relegation hangs over Everton this season? Would seem more appropriate.

"There was always the option of the long ball to him [Lukaku]."

Pretty much sums up their tactics last season. Maybe that's why they didn't appear to have any plan at all now.
Long ball to him, and long ball in behind for him to run on to.

Those options cause so many problems for opponents, they have to adapt and as a result there's more space for midfielders and wide players to operate in.

How much of a threat are everton this season?

None.

Close thread!

Revisit in championship thread next season?

Their director of football fell from grace pretty quick, was meant to be the next big thing.

Maybe shows buying players no matter how much research you put in can be hit and miss.

Much like the scout at Saudi Sportswashing Machine, he got lucky at Leicester with his early buys. Given the players Everton signed, there couldn't have been much thought or research gone into it.

Yeah but give their signings a season or two. The Bale seven where initially slated, but came good to varying degrees (at least financially), and Comolli's signings were also only viewed more positively with hindsight.

It stunk to me of the Manager having the power over transfers - they were desperate for Koeman and offered him a war chest so not sure how much blame can be put on him if Koeman won the power struggle.

Not saying one way or other but as he is still there and Koeman got the boot would have thought it just as likely.

Everton has a culture problem, mid-table mediocrity acceptance is all over that club.

The challenge they have, is the brick clubs have improved, they haven't, and they have lost the passion/fight that you need for every position in the PL.

No manager/purchase is going to change that anytime soon, probably only getting relegated will shake them up enough.

Or a manager that takes on the attitude issues successfully.

Shame for them they got the wrong former Southampton manager.
