Eric Dier

It was a bad pass mate. Mount was on his heels but that really isn't a clever ball to be playing in that situation.
Seems like the kind of pass that would be seen as clever if it worked out, brilliant if it lead to a good attacking chance and goal. Bypassing two lines of pressure finding Mount near the half way line with half the pitch for runners in behind to attack.

Looking at the stills above I struggle to see a better pass being available. Really only options that will likely mean just surrendering to the pressure leading to a hopeful long ball.

It's higher risk, higher reward than some managers like. Don't think Mourinho will want him to play that pass at 0-0 against City for example. But if you want more expansive, more forward thinking passes from your centre backs it's the kind of pass and "mistake" that should be accepted imo.

Do people think Dier is more mobile so far this season (compared to last season when after his appendicitis and maybe fatigue from Poch's training he seemed to turn like an oil tanker)?

No, he's just less exposed because we play deep and on the counter

Brilliant today, so many good blocks and good decisions.

Was surprised he didn't play right side, with Rodon playing left side.

It was noticeable that Hojbjerg played next to him when we sat deep i.e. Hoj was left side, Dier right next to him, then Toby. Hoj would leap out and challenge the midfielders, but he was right next to Dier a lot.

Have to echo all the above. Never liked him much as a DM but he’s been outstanding since the first lockdown and has stepped up a couple of levels in recent weeks.

A colossus and he’s got a great attitude.
