(Higuain x 2, Messi, Lamela)

Messi scored his 54th goal for Argentina to equal Batistuta's record as the all-time top goal scorer for Argentina. Messi is now the top scorer in this Copa with 4 goals. Special mention to Lamela for keeping the Spurs flag flying in the Copa America by scoring in second consecutive match for Argentina, after scoring against Bolivia earlier.

Argentina will now meet the United States in the semi final on Tuesday.
 
Eduardo Vargas has two goals for Chile against Mexico tonight and looks a world beater. He's been a journeyman and now plays for Hoffenheim. Worth a look.

Oops - now a hat trick as I type. Chile is destroying Mexico 5-0 after 60 minutes.

Edit: 4 now for Vargas. 6-0 Chile at 75 minutes.

It is utter humiliation for Mexico who are 16th in FIFA Rankings. After the exit of Brazil, thought Mexico will progress to the Final to meet Argentina. Instead they disgraced themselves by losing 0-7 to Chile, their worst defeat since 1961 ! This is puzzling and unacceptable as Mexico had beaten Chile 1-0 in a friendly just 3 weeks ago. This result is sure to cause riots among the Mexican fans and their media.

Colombia Vs Chile

All teams going into the semi finals in good form. Argentina started slowly but the return of Messi seems to have revitalized them. Defending champions Chile lost their first match to Argentina but has improved greatly after that. The Americans lost to Colombia but have made use of their home advantage to beat other teams. Colombia has looked convincing except for the loss to Costa Rica when they rested many regulars. So, both the semi finals are going to be very close matches.
 
Argentina has been the butts of jokes after a photo of their wild post-match dressing room celebrations was revealed.

Guess this is just a (sad) sign of modern football nowadays.

Gotta say, going forwards, Arguies and Chileans look deadliest. It's at the back perhaps Argies have more strength. Go Lamela !!!

(Lavezzi, Messi, Higuain x 2)

So, Argentina are in the Final after comfortably beating the hosts US in the semi final. Messi scored 1 with a super freekick and assisted 2 other goals. Higuain scored 2 goals. Lamela came as the sub in the 77th min and almost scored with a shot from a difficult angle but his shot went wide. And the Americans had to eat the humble pie after laughing at Mexico for getting trounced 7-0 by Chile earlier.

With his goal, Messi became the all-time top scorer for Argentina with 55 goals, overtaking Batistuta. But Batistuta won the Copa America with Argentina in 1991 and 1993. So, Messi will be desperate to win the Copa as he will be 29 in 2 days time.

Or, you know, a way of telling a story with only a picture, much like people like to paint stories of their lives by posing for fancy happy looking pictures on Facebook or Instagram or whatever. Who knows, maybe these guys have been celebrating wildly for 20 minutes, and then have just sat down to inform their wives when they'll be coming to the hotel or whatever. Haha, I realize it looks a bit ridiculous, but it doesn't necessarily tell the enitre story.

Chile 2-0 Colombia

So, it will be Argentina-Chile Final again ! Remember, Chile beat Argentina on penalties to win the Copa on their home soil last year. Messi and Argentina get a golden chance to take revenge on Chile now !
 
3rd/4th Place Play-off
Colombia 1-0 United States

So, Colombia finishes in 3rd place after beating the hosts US. This is the 4th time they finish in 3rd place. Their previous 3rd place finish was in 1987, 1993 and 1995. So, they can be proud about finishing in 3rd place for the first time in 21 years. Their only Copa title was in 2001 but they were never looked like winning it this time.

As for the Americans, they must be upset at not doing much better at home. Can see their coach Klinsmann coming under pressure for not improving them much since taking over in 2011.

Both Messi and Argentina will be desperate to beat Chile and win the Copa America. Just like his rival Ronaldo of Portugal, time is running out for Messi to win his first international title with Argentina.

Messi is 29 now and will be 31 at the next World Cup and 32 at the next Copa in Brazil(2019). Just can't see Argentina winning the World Cup in Europe or the Copa in Brazil. So, this is most probably Messi's only remaining chance to win a trophy with Argentina. After losing the 2014 WC and 2015 Copa Finals, both Messi and Argentina won't forgive themselves if they don't win the Cup this time.

Argentina had won 14 Copa titles compared to 15 titles by Uruguay. So, Argentina have to win this Copa to equal Uruguay's record. Most of Argentina's Copa titles were won before 1960. Since then they have only won 2 Copa titles in 1991 and 1993. So, they will be desperate to win their first Copa title in 23 long years !

It is time Argentina prove their worth as the no.1 team in the world based on FIFA rankings. They have failed to prove their worth many times before. But they have been in good form in the Copa. They have already beaten Chile in the Group match. So, there is no excuse whatsoever for Argentina not to win the Cup this time !

Argentina and Messi are simply bottlers of highest order ! Messi not only lost another major Final, he even missed the first penalty for Argentina in the shootouts. ! Argentina have now lost 3 major Finals in a row : 2014 WC, 2015 Copa America and now 2016 Copa America Centenario ! To make it worse, Chile beat Argentina to win the Copa America for the 2nd consecutive time, both times on penalties !

With that, Messi has lost all the rights to be compared with the legendary Maradona. Can't see Messi win a trophy for Argentina now ! Have to feel sorry for Lamela who came on as a sub with only 10 mins of the extra time remaining.
 
Wow, just wow. A repeat of last year, just different penalty takers who missed.

They shoulda put on Lamela wayyy earlier - just come back safe and sound young man, enjoy the break (if you can).
 
Being an Argentina fan, feeling really bitter and annoyed about Argentina losing their third consecutive major Final !

Find it unacceptable that Argentina were brilliant in all the matches before the Final and yet became shyte in the Final and threw it away yet again !

Find it annoying that Argentina beat Chile convincingly in the group match and still lost to them in the Final !

Feeling bitter that Messi is so good for Barcelona but goes missing in a major Final for Argentina again !

Feeling really annoyed that Higuain, the biggest bottler in Argentine football history, has bottled yet another open goal in the third consecutive major Final for Argentina !
