Gutter Boy
Tim Sherwood
I wonder if he might end up playing LW at times for us? Kind of the Lamela mad high press role? The sort of thing you do to kill off a game when you are ahead
he mostly played LW/M for Atleti this season so possible I guess.I wonder if he might end up playing LW at times for us? Kind of the Lamela mad high press role? The sort of thing you do to kill off a game when you are ahead
It probably makes more use of his qualities, than having him further back where ball progression and transition is so crucialhe mostly played LW/M for Atleti this season so possible I guess.
I watch Bergvall and look back to those many years ago when I used to play and can't help but think "GHod, I really wouldn't want to have to be his central midfield partner, I've got no confidence he'll ever be in the right place" (not withstanding the fact that at the level I played at I could just pass to him and then let him waltz round 5 players and score every timeWholeheartedly agree but was too scared to suggest because of the potential pile in. If you watch him live you can see that he runs around a lot but I don't think he has learnt to channel that energy effectively . He has so much potential and I love his attitude but because of our injury situation has not had a chance to get his head down and work on his development. And we really don't want another Dele situation on our hands.
He is a really good all round midfield player. Everything you want in a number 8 type. Every time I've watched him for Palace of Chelsea I've been impressed - I was even mightily impressed when he played against us for (I think it was) West Brom, and remember looking him up thinking "he'd be a great player for us to sign" only to be disappointed that he was on loan from Chelsea - I remember calling out on here how impressed I was with him in that game.A few thoughts (yes, highlight reel)
- Strong, Intercepts quite a bit (seems to read the play), Carries
- Has an eye for goal/shot (something we don't have a lot of.
- Tempo
I'm not the biggest fan of Gallagher but I find this hard to deny. It looks at least on paper reasonably balanced and higher in quality levels at the specific things each player is good at as opposed to the melange of meh we've generally played so far this season. My initial reaction on Gallagher was "no thanks" but in retrospect that was mostly down to his Cheat$ki roots. Now I'm in favor of this deal, not just down to the football he plays (he's an upgrade on all of our current 8's...and we have plenty of them) but also due his leadership qualities which I feel we lack with Sonny having moved on. Captaining a competitive PL team at 22 years old is something that very few achieve plus he has the experience of playing with top, top players such as Greizeman.
A midfield three of Palhina - Gallagher - Xavi is possibly the best three we've played all season. And I'm a big fan of Gray.
I agree on what you like about him.He is a really good all round midfield player. Everything you want in a number 8 type. Every time I've watched him for Palace of Chelsea I've been impressed - I was even mightily impressed when he played against us for (I think it was) West Brom, and remember looking him up thinking "he'd be a great player for us to sign" only to be disappointed that he was on loan from Chelsea - I remember calling out on here how impressed I was with him in that game.
I honestly don't know what it is that the people who don't want him are actually watching? He is probably the very best midfield player that we had any chance of signing this window and we also absolutely know that he can handle the physicality and pace of the PL, and not just 'handle' it but actually relish it. He can come straight into our team and make it better.
Every player does this sometimes. Bergvall for example does some really poor things yet he seems to be loved by most Spurs fans no matter what. I think maybe some people just have an irrational dislike of certain players that comes from some sort of pre conceived opinion?
I mostly agree with your point. But also think that maybe if he got to play there sometimes he could develop in those aspects.I watch Bergvall and look back to those many years ago when I used to play and can't help but think "GHod, I really wouldn't want to have to be his central midfield partner, I've got no confidence he'll ever be in the right place" (not withstanding the fact that at the level I played at I could just pass to him and then let him waltz round 5 players and score every time)
He takes risks which is something hardly any of our midfielders do and something that we need. Yes not all of it comes off, yes he can be naive, yes he can lose the ball in dangerous positions but that is more than a fair trade off for him getting PL experience because he is going to be a really good player.I think the main reason Bergvall is getting a full pass from fans (including, admittedly, me) is because he is showing enormous personality and desire every time he steps onto the pitch, something we've really lacked. You and others make some good points about his performance level versus his incredibly young age.
