Club seeking to hire performance psychologist

My question/concern is - why the fraying fudge don't we already have one? What!? This baffles me. Why? I really don't get it. I thought having a mental performance coach was so basic in any sport these days I took for granted that we had one. It makes zero sense to not have one.

Especially after last season and the season we've had so far - NOW we're hiring one?! Better late than never, of course, but why oh why haven't we had one for 10 years already?

Just baffling. Good that we're finally looking to get one though, obviously. About fudging time.

Perhaps we’ve had mental performance coaches before, but we’ve realised that now we need one unafraid to use dark powers, like Kevin Eldon’s evil hypnotist at the smoking cessation clinic in Big Train, or indeed like Wendy Rhoades in Billions.

I'd hire Michael McIntyre and Micky Flanagan to come in once a week and do some team building with the squad.

These 2 Spurs loving tinkle takers would soon get everyone motivated and smiling again.

Ridiculous that we don't.
Frank had one at Brentford FFS!!!

Most psychologists worth their salt (ie good ones) won't want to be tied (employed) to a single organisation.

To say 'we didn't have one' is unfair and more than likely untrue. The players and staff would have had access to offsite mental health professionals of various disciplines on a ad hoc when required basis for both individuals and as a team.. I'm sure even days would have been set up onsite that were not even requested by the players. The players themselves probably privately have professionals that help them in this area.

And that's the thing when requiring help from therapists and practitioners .....it's a very private and personal thing on an individual level. To have a choice and variation is important, as to get the best outcome you need to 'click' with said person.

Yeah, there is no way we didn’t have one at all, the players would have had one each.

I had a bad day yesterday and probably got some of that spilling out onto this, for whatever reason, so I'm sorry about that. In my tinkled off mind it read "Spurs hires mental coach for the team for the first time ever!" - and I found that odd. I took this to mean that we were hiring a mental coach for the team as a unit, ie someone who would collectively coach and instruct the lads on how to perform when the going gets tough. I found it odd if we didn't already have such a person hired, as it seems like such a huge part of the game, and something we surely cannot leave only to the head coach.

I always assumed that players sought their own ones
With the wages they are on....all avenues of self help are open I'd imagine. Some need it, some don't, but also some don't know where to look or start (most are young after all), so imagine the club have interventions, recommendations (or at least avenues) in place for when an individual needs it.

You hear of many sportsmen/women who are introduced or recommended to such an such a person via their club or team, and then they build a career long relationship with that perso. Ditto physios, rehab guys and girls.
