Best live recorded performances ever

Had the pleasure of being here on this night

Frankie Beverley, one of my all time favourite live singers

I still listen to Who live at Leed - Live for me though means atmosphere and visual effects, recordings are just too one dimensional on the whole.

Never bored with anything Zappa did. So many talented musicians in his various entourages. All with a licence to get sideways.

Always enjoyed this slightly earlier Zappa live recording featuring the over-the-top theatrical vocal stylings of Howard Kaylan and Mark Volman from the Turtles. And couldn't be farther from their big hit So Happy Together:

If I'm gonna throw a Jan Akkerman cut into the mix, then I'd be remiss not to include something from the sparkling Live In The Air Age album by Be Bop Deluxe. More delightful guitar playing by Bill Nelson and a great band around him:

Sam Cooke, one night at the Harlem club, for those looking for more than thrashing guitars, long hair and a lack of soap.
