Ronaldo scored 18 PL goals this season. That's more than Harry Kane, and in a pretty dysfunctional team.
Now, unlike Bale, Ronaldo has taken incredible care over his body and is still a top notch athlete. But let's be honest -- are there many better backup forwards?

That would be great if it were guaranteed but it's not.
How many players do you need to work with before one looks like he might be the next Bale? Of those, how many become that good?
There are a handful of people in the world who can do what Bale can. If we can have the real thing and work on making the new one, why not?

Ones a £50m buy when we have to prioritise other areas
The other is a free who needs games to stay fit for the World Cup (potentially)
Free and reasonable wages for one season providing cover across the front 3 positions. It allows Parrott one more season out on loan at either a championship or lower PL team and it can be decided then if he's good enough to be a long term replacement for Kane or Son. Don't see a downside to it.

If he's happy to be a rotation player - which he is - can't think of many better options for someone that can cover all the attacking positions and knows the club and lge really well.
We struggle for Kane backup of any quality due to playing time.
Same with Son cover now.
Probably Kulu too.
Bale covers all of them = more playing time for him and a quality rotation options.
