Anyone know anything about Vinyl turntables

In my recent research on flexy racks, one of the mentioned advantages was that the dampening in the structure avoided hissing.

What is your turntable stood on?

Are you sure any input will do? I seem to remember my old amp had a dedicated input for the turntable (a different impedance?).
If you connect the turntable directly to the receiver, then yes, you have to connect it to the phono input. But when using a separate RIAA Amp, the signal is already (close to) line level, so should be connected to a line input.

BedfordSpurs, your typos in this thread are legendary.

Sounds to me like you need to build a Faraday Cage from strips of copper - build it around 3m square and then put your wife and children and pets inside it.

Could be dust on the speakers. We used to knock it off by cranking up Led Zeppelin albums to 11. Try this modern equivalent:

You’ve connected the turntable ground wire to the preamp (in addition to R/L connectors) I assume?
