The point is, the level of clubs keepers get to is a far better measure of ability than being the best for their nation because the majority of national teams are crap and international football is nowhere near the level of the top leagues.

I only took examples from the premier league, and most of the PL GK's in the world cup were NOT their countries first choice GK, so your attempt to rescue your statement falls short.

From what I've seen from Kinsky over the past few months, I’m happy to have him as our starting GK.

From what he adds to our build-up play, to his steadiness (as opposed to Vic’s twitchiness) and his shot-stopping, the guy has earned the right to play week in, week out.

All players including GKs make mistakes and we need to give him some latitude when he does to help him grow into the player we hope he will be.

If he’s good enough, then he’s old enough.

When I was younger one of my managers told me he judged people by how they handled setbacks and I've found that useful, it shows strength of character to bounce back and the will to learn from any mistakes.

On the mentality thing, obviously he is resilient to play the way he did at the end of the season and credit to him. However, I do think the catastophisation of the Madrid performance by people in the media who should know better, as if he would just crumble forever more, a bit OTT. The lad is a good goalkeeper, has a good mentality but let's see how he goes this season. He still has a bit to do to be our long term 'keeper. He does deserve his chance to prove himself though.

I think a lot of keepers seem to have problems with long shots, Vicario has let a few in, it might be the balls they use now.
As long as none of our keepers are like one of our old keepers Ron Reynolds who had poor eyesight and was one of the first players to wear contact lens.

He's already made mistakes, there was a positioning one for the second goal Chelsea scored last season which was in the midst of his initial revival. Keepers make errors, it's just a fact of life.

The goodwill across all aspects of the club from fans to coach to staff to players should hopefully mean we can have a break from there being a spacegoat every time we lose or don't win, but I have no doubt it will be back if we have a tough run of results.

A successful project goes how you expect. You don't learn anything new.
An unsuccessful one doesn't. So you have to learn why whatever you didn't expect happened. You then adjust for next time.

I do agree with you on your point around how OTT it was. I think there was a desperation to make this like the Karius situation in the media, but actually, Kinsky just slipped. It would be very easy to compartmentalise - especially if you have a strong foundational confidence - that it wasn’t your fault that you slipped. It would be harder if he was literally dropping balls into his net.

That said, I’m really bullish on him. I do think lesser players would have crumbled, and everything I see of him mentality wise as well as on the pitch makes me think he can be a top player, especially in DZ’s system,

Maybe having a competent midfield now we can close down most of the long-range shots? Especially from Enzo who we know is very good from distance.
