American politics

Was it fake news though? Per the links, a large number of mailboxes were collected, so the photo was real and from the correct time frame? Of course the USPS aren't gonna announce "we took them away because the big orange man baby threw a tantrum"
But the fact that the plan to remove them in areas where there were two in close proximity or to replace where vandalised (the vast majority as far as I can see) was created long before a postal vote was even being discussed - long before anyone even knew COVID-19 existed.

USA TODAY ran a story about it being misleading. The photos were outside a company contracted to repair the boxes and the contract had been in place for years. Fact checking backed that up apparently

Before people get their knickers in twist to say that's defence of Trump, it's not, I just a fan of the news being accurate, it will ultimately help out him when it is. Likes just fuels his agenda and fans

One conspiracy theory is as bad as another.

All theories are equal...but some are more equal than others - Steff Orwell, Aug 2020, written on the bog with two thumbs and a grim awareness that there's a teeth cleaning at the dentists in 55 minutes, plus a check-up to make sure I am not turning ginger (gingervitis exam)...

The accurate news is in the history of the appt, the months of Trump floating the absolutely unfounded claim that the election will be tainted by mail-in vote rigging, and the subsequent efforts to diminish the USPS pre-election which were u-turned after massive outcry.

The photo was unnecessary.
The story is very, very real.

Sometimes the simplest explanation.....

The USPS has been losing a fudging fortune. Trump wants to (and should) privatise the massively inefficient service. Trump appoints person with experience of running private postal firms. Appointee makes cuts to a busines that is hemorrhaging money.

Bit like ours where you no longer find them in extravagant corner buildings on the High Street but in a WH Smith etc

Sometimes a simpler one...strange that it took him three and a half years, and a few months before an election where mail ins could be vital- before taking action. It isn't like the USPS was pulling up trees until this month.

To fully gauge what is going on (IMO) it helps to know that British And US politics are still operating on fundamentally different levels. Not meant to be patronizing, it is a fact IMO...

TBF I genuinely was just likening the US postal service to ours and fact we went through a large streamline

Wasn't he appointed in early May, before anyone realised the effect COVID-19 would have on elections?

Many articles around from March and April questionning Nov election impact due to COVID.

This piece even mentions voting in person would be impacted and alternative means required, so not sure it only came as a surprise recently COVID would impact November.
