*** OMT - Tottenham Hotspur v Borussia Dortmund ***

Dortmund are quality.
And we are showing we have a plan B and can take on teams with ultimate possession.
Great tactical decision.

We do need something a bit different second half though or the goal will come. Oddly this is actually a game for Sissoko later on - he can bumble forward with the ball, get it up the pitch.
And the amount of time he takes to then play the ball will give his team mates time to catch up!

Alternatively, if it carries on, Llorente for Eriksson/Son with Kane dropping a little, would give us an outball and pressure their backline

We are.

We're just sitting in and defending for our lives. If we keep to this tactic it is just a matter of time.
In the lead against Dortmund it's a solid enough tactic. But we need to up our aggression at times.

Could have had more massive counter attacking chances with a bit more accuracy. More chances to break will surely come our way.

Why is Aurier so slow to get back after failing a tackle or interception? Pochettino needs to put that on the list of things that will get him headbutted.

Add to that slow to get out towards the end there. Shaky first half from him. Needs to improve, if not we have Trippier on the bench.

Trips might be a good option if we are looking to hit them on the break. He would give us another option for getting the ball over the top.

Blimey. Breathless. Dortmund's energy is incredible - what a team and what a privilege to play them. We can learn so much from this and it will only improve us.

Sorry but not having this. We aren't here to stand back and admire them. We should be doing better and if we continue like this, we'll get walloped and some lads will wonder if their futures lie with us or elsewhere.

Never seen Dembele so anonymous. Eriksen is struggling and Harry has given the ball back too easy at times.

Poch needs to sort this out and quickly.

We could've had good use for Wanyama, Dele and Rose tonight, IMO. Even Lamela, in top form.

Davis has been good, but Rose would've pushed them back more than we have been able too, and obviously Wanyama as a Dembele replacement.

Good stuff so far just a shame Sonny failed to play Eriksen in for a third. Not quite sure how he failed to do that tbh but never mind.

Dortmund getting incredibly lucky with the breaks of the ball and the decisions as their goal was clearly offside.

It would be if we were looking solid but we are not. Some excellent last ditch defending and a bit of luck is keeping us ahead really. It will run out.

Got a bit desperate at times there with diving tackles and taking a few risks, but Dortmund are executing the press so well and are so slick on the ball we are struggling to cope with the movement. Top marks to Dortmund they play lovely football, we just need to counter them quick whenever the opportunity presents, keep it as simple as possible as we aren't going to out football them tonight.

Crikey. Breathless, smothered then breakaway. Anything could happen. Dembele has given the ball away loads of times due to intense pressure every time he gets it, they are really pressing us fast.

Where are the "experts" on this thread who said they had men out and were there for the taking?!

There will be loads of goals second half as players tire, I fear for us tbh

I'm not saying the team should be admiring them. What I'm saying is they'll learn from this. This is a new level and hopefully the HT talk will be to step it up by a good few degrees.

I think it's been a good counter-attacking display from us so far. Not perfect, but pretty decent. If we can get the 3rd and make it 3-1, I think they will push up so much that we can rip them to pieces and end up winning 4 or 5. Next goal is the killer, if we can get it.

I think we would need some of that regardless of our choice of tactic. And I think it's easier to improve our defending with this tactic.

Dortmund did spend a lot of energy in that half. We might have a bit more in reserve for the second.

Seems to me like we're according to plan. Wish we had more possession, but it seems like we're to move it forward as fast as we can at all cost to catch them out, and losing possession a lot because of it.

We need to step it up though, try to keep possession a bit, slow down the game if we can. Otherwise we'll get stung in the second half. 72-28 possession Dortmund.

Seems to me to be a deliberate ploy to sit back and then counter.

And the commentary make the tremendous insights as to how we are being pushed back and cant handle Dortmunds attacking amazingness...

Not noticing the fact we arent even pressing them until well into our half. Funnily enough Dortmund go back and back as they cant break through and we push out then.

Of course Dortmund are quality going forward, and we have been lucky at points, but its not the one sided fairy tale they are describing

Missing Wanyama arnt we.

Davison has been shaky at times.

Problem is we are losing the ball to easy.

Naive in Europe

I don't think that we've been naive, going toe to toe would be naive. I think that we are just up against a very good side.

If so, we're learning.

Premier league teams have fallen quite a long way behind Europes elite.
It's not just us.
We also have a few injuries.
Winks is an option, he plays like Dortmund do.
Even Sissoko, I don't rate him at all but off the ball and on the counter surely he will do more than Erikssen who has been non existent and like Dembele very poor pressing the opposition.
