I see now why we are getting this guy. The management team have realised the idiotic mistake in selling Walker (and to a rival!) and have sought to make amends by getting another 'Walker' in.

We are very lucky that this guy is available and coming to us, considering he is younger than Walker and possibly as good and make a 30m profit. We have got out of jail on the Walker decision.

We can all see again today that davies and trippier are decent back ups but no more than that. We badly need blistering pace out wide on that pitch so it is vital we get Aurier in and desperately need to get Rose fit too asap.

I think what you are saying is that I should not complain about the homophobia on this board.

What homophobia on this board? No one has made any derogatory comments about homosexuals that I have read. I challenge you to show me one comment in this thread that disparages homosexuals?

I dont think signing Aurier will be a knee-jerk reaction at all, or any suggestion that Poch et al have realised that they've made a mistake.

Its a very understandable decision for the reasons you mentioned - get in a like for like replacement who is a few years younger and get £25m - £30m in the bank. Walker is probably at his peak value at the moment so I can get why they've decided to make this change.

I dont see it as a get out of jail at all - simply a planned change

What are you on about, Aurier was mooted before Walker left....

And the manager did not want Walker any more because he didn't accept that it is a squad game.

I agree with all of that, but if no other club has bid for him I do wonder why they did not get the deal done earlier in the summer. Same with the lad from Ajax, we should have done the deal at the start of the season.

Who exactly is being homophobic on here ??

I don't know about who exactly, but some of the views being presented (maybe as devil's advocate?) sail a little close for me.

Why not?
What's wrong with someone not liking the idea of homosexuality?
Because that's all a 'homophobe' is nowadays. The label of 'hate' is just attached to people with little/no justification.

Ah now, I said nothing about not liking people.
Just about something they do or a lifestyle that they adopt.

Not liking people is different.

Also "if one doesn't like theft, don't steal"...doesn't quite work.

And on the "lifestyle" question:

Depends on who you speak to. I have heard from homosexuals and former homosexuals who would not agree with that. But it flies in the face of present cultural (Western cultural) perceived wisdom so, for now, is disregarded.

Now, I happen to think that people are born gay and it's not a lifestyle choice. Ask yourself: did you choose your own sexuality?

But, let's say it is a lifestyle choice. So fudging what? It doesn't affect me in the least what someone does in bed. What does it matter if someone chose it or not? Good luck to them. Whether I "like something they do" or not is neither here nor there, it's irrelevant, I have no claim to judgement over someone's private life.

It also seems to me that "not liking" the homosexual act is pretty close passing judgment on the person too. (In a general sense, not saying that that's the case here).

I appreciate this is the Aurier thread and I don't want to derail it, but the question was asked and it's pertinent to the discussion. But I've aired my view so I'll leave it at this here - maybe it's better suited to random.

To bring it back to Aurier, if indeed what he said was homophobic, I'm of the belief that people change and mature and deserve second chances and that they shouldn't be forever damned for past mistakes. So hopefully that will be the case with him.

Indeed, SpurMeUp.

And it was amusing of HotShot to say he wasn't sure who exactly, and then quote me alone. Talking in the abstract rather than the personal. And apparently only sailing close rather than crossing any arbitrary line...

[QUOTE="SpurMeUp, post: 954492, member: 886"]Why don't we open a gayness thread in Random? This debate was interesting, and kicking out any discrimination at the club is worth discussing, but this is the new RB thread. The man we're pinning our season's hopes to![/QUOT

Will the "gayness thread" be a place to discuss the psychological and sociological implications of being a homosexual, or simply a safe space to discuss interior design, swap recipes and talk about Hi -NRG disco music? Inquiring minds and all that.

They're your quotes, sure. I knew that. I don't know if you're homophobic or if they're just debating points, so I took your name out.

I'd always rather discuss the issue than make it ad hominem.

Yeah, now more than ever Aurier is needed. Whether for actual relief or merely to offer the provocation of a tangible threat to take the RB position.

Some very queer decision making by Trippier on that equalizer.

Thought Alderweireld was a bit dainty in his commitment to challenging Wood on the play.
