Ross Barkley

That's why I said 'We've got a lot right but in the other direction' but I was responding to someone's point that you could just copy our transfer moves and gazump us. We've done some very good deals, but we've also done some awful ones

Something no other club does right? ALL transfer are a gamble and ALL clubs lose out on some players they sign.

My fear is that as we approach season 18/19 and relocate to our NWHL the team will be decimated. Hope I'm wrong.

Sadly, if players want top wages they will not get them at Spurs for another few years if ever!
PSG, City, United et al and maybe Chelsea will blow most out of the water.......it is an economic fact of of footballing life for Spurs.

Just goes to show how football is slowly dying when a team who are trying to do things the right way struggle due to not having mega bucks.

Spot on, the modern game stinks and the worse part about it is that there are a lot of fans who want us to do what the doped clubs do and think its the right way to go. I love Spurs, i used to live for the game but i will not shed a tear when it all blows up in the faces of those who who think/want us to go down the route of those doped clubs.

Every bubble bursts. At some point the money will go out of football and it will become less popular again. I don't want our club's future to be at risk when that happens.

Could not agree more and that is why i am happy with what levy is doing ( and has done) for our club and why i have always said i would never watch us again if we got a bored billionaire ( or similar) in charge.

I haven't seen anyone suggest doing anything which puts the long term future of the club at risk

Plenty are calling for us to spend more to complete deals early in the window and to significantly increase our wage bill.

we can do both of those things without risking our future afaic

No one is saying match the rich 3 for wage budgets - just spend more of what we have, and I don't buy the idea we don't have plenty of wriggle room in that department right now, not with the new tv deal and the sales we have made recently

Not if we increase wages beyond a sustainable level and rely on our owners bankrolling transfers. I know that most people are not calling on us to do that but some are.

We don't have to increase beyond a sustainable level that's the point - spending more money doesn't only mean spend beyond our means and it's tiresome to see that as a response every time someone says we could be doing more with what we have than what we are doing

Fair point, but who is in the best position to judge what is a sustainable level, Levy or the fans who in all reality have no idea what we have or not have?

Well I'm not really inclined to believe something just because it's what I'm being told - I can weigh things up myself and form an opinion.

And who knows what magic number Levy thinks is sustainable? Just because we aren't spending doesn't necessarily mean it's because we don't have the money - it could be for football related reasons for example.

Our revenue has gone up substantially becayse of the new tv deal meaning money for wages should have risen in line with that, at least, and then we have had a lot of money coming in recently through player sales - Walker alone was 50m... that suggests we have both money for wages and transfer fees available (I realise it's going to be as simple as a big pile of surplus cash lying around but we're talking in general terms here) that currently is doing a fat load of nothing

There you go then, football fans with opinions know better then the man who has ALL the information at hand. Do you not see the weakness in that point?

Then we are not disagreeing. I don't think that this will stop players like Rose agitating for a move though.
