Josh Onomah

I hope he gets to play a lot in his favorite position. Sounds like a good deal for all parties involved. Hopefully he'll thrive from getting regular match practise. :)

tbh i am not going to miss him

Neither am I. Hopefully he'll get a fair crack there and either establish himself in the side, or not stack up. Worst case would be for him to be in and out of the side or for some other reason, him not really be tested there. I know some people on this site think that excelling at age group level implies that the player will make it at PL level but unfortunately thats not the case. This is an ideal opportunity for JO to prove himself - hopefully then Spurs will know in 6-12 months time whether we should plan for him to be part of our future or not. It might also benefit Edwards given that it increases the chances of him getting some game time in main two domestic cups and Checkatrade

for me loans aren't about looking good, although obviously that's preferable, it's about getting used to playing week in week out and having pressure on you that you don't get from playing 5 minutes here and there or run outs in cup games with the rest of the non starting XI - i don't think an unimpressive loan spell will do his future prospects much harm if he is rated by management

It may well be that a season of midfield play in a team that should be at the top end of their division will be a crucial part in determining precisely where is best for Josh to play in midfield and what style he can truly best fit.

Two examples that spring to mind - Kane said Millwall and Norwich experiences, neither of which were that successful, spurred him on the most.

I remember Modric talking about his loan to Bosnia (so he have lumps kicked out of him said his coach!) in a similar fashion

Presumably you'd have written off Kane and Rose as they had unsuccessful loans when they were Onomah's age then?

Kane and Rose both had decent loan spells at various clubs. I do mean it in a literal sense though, there are many players of a high standard in his way here whereas at Villa there isn't.

Funny that, there was a time I was not going to miss Harry Kane, that was before he started playing well and scoring goals for us, I think he was at the same age Josh Onomah is now

i was feeling the same about kane too and glad he came back much stronger and better.

now there's preceedence its nothing more than a clear message from poch to onomah - demonstrate a clear step up in performance, similar to what kane did - or ship out.

millwall was a very successful loan. He scored a goal every three games for a relegation threatened club which got them safety and he picked up their young player of the season award.

they were all 'successful' loans, from our point of view, because they helped shape him in to the player he is now...

i was working with a Millwall season ticket holder around that time who was also a manager of local team and had done quite a few of his Uefa badges - he thought Mason (who was also on loan at Millwall at one point, maybe even the same time as Kane?) would be the one who made it at Spurs and Kane would end up in the Championship

Villa's game kicks off at 5:30. Unlikely Onomah will start this one, having just completed his move. Maybe on the bench...
