Spurs v Monaco OMT

I think it's the opposite. Young team with players not game sharp in their position feeling too much pressure, guilty of playing the occasion not the game?

I'm going to sleep on this. I did feel there was no urgency though, especially in the last 20 mins or so.

A sad night all in all now I've had a nap and calmed down. But as many have said in response to waiting 5 years to get back and perform as poorly as we did, it really seems to be just getting their regularly for the cash at our current level. Personally I think you play your strongest team possible in each game, as historically we've tended to fudge up the next big game after European nights when players have been rested.

The whole Wembley thing is a damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario, if I was Levy I would have done the same. If the wembley curse is a thing though, we're fudged. I'd prefer not to go into to europa league. And win the Cup. I don't think the current squad has ability/interest to perform in europe and league

As for Pooch, he's hopefully gonna learn from this, as he's struggling a bit. Admittedly, I trolled him earlier in thread labelling him a fraud, and not top tier manager. And realistically he isn't top tier yet decision wise, in my opinion, but more likely to get there than not. Certainly wasn't calling for him to be sacked, that would be madness.

The squad is a concern for me. Pooch doesn't want a big squad. Wimmer did well got benched and now looks poor. Trippier barely gets a game and was awful. We're gonna need a new keeper next year, as even if we return, Hugo's off. Other than kane out of the offensive players, their all out of form or injured or not up to it. Lamela, dembele, Son, Ericksen, Alli, sissoko all capable of being the main man in most teams, but only Lamela is getting any sort of consistency. I'd be looking to add at least one offensive wide player in January. The kids can have ten minutes when games one.

Biggest concern now is our season could go either way real quick, and pooch needs to get a head of that

I couldnt agree more. Unfortunately, i think tonight may be the last time i sit down to watch or go to Spurs in a very long time. If we are going to field weakened teams in the biggest games we play then following this club isnt for me. Ive got better things to do with my time than to watch a half arsed effort. Im sure Poch has his reasons but id rather have given it everything tonight and lost 6-0 sat that clueless brick, jack of all trades master of fudge all, that was on show tonight. I was massively fudged off when he did the same thing in the second half of last season. He would send out 70/80% strength teams every week to try and win everything rather than 100% teams on the games he needed to win and 60/70% of the games that didnt really matter.
I reckon he didn't try to win everything. He sacrificed the Carling as he did this year and the Europa to an extent. I can understand he is trying to keep everyone involved and blood some younger players, hence we need to be in competitions but he knows that in keeping everyone involved we are likely to lose. It is something you have to accept in order to bring on players like Winks, Onomah, Ward-Prowse etc.
The problem today was that this was not the League Cup, EL Cup or even the FA Cup, but the biggest competition in Europe.
He should now on play the best team available to him to win the match, if some one is struggling then fine they don't play, but they should not be on the bench either. Cut rotation, players can rest when they are injured. Kane seems to have benefited. Monaco fielded a full strength team, as do Real, Barca and others why don't we?
It is the old adage: "One game at a time".
I think he got it all wrong today, we needed fit players and with pace not those struggling, note Alli's half hearted attempt to track on their second goal. The diamond or 4-3-2-1 where both wrong as it left their full backs unattended, a blind man could have seen we needed to double on the wings.
The encouraging thing is he is trying different formats, as some of us accused him of being tactically rigid with 4-2-3-1. So he is bound to get it wrong sometime, we can't have it all ways.

This was a cup final basically, in terms of needing a win to progress in the competition and none of our outfield players looked liked they cared enough. This is probably the most disappointed I've ever been watching a spurs game. If they had shown some guts and some effort and we'd still lost I could live with it, but there seemed to be no desire.
I am not sure we can blame the players entirely, the game plan according to Poch was to be steady and be clever and nick the game. It was not to go gung-ho, unfortunately that mentality often means you can't get out of first gear.

Utterly disgraceful performance we certainly haven't hit the highs of last season barring man city

The big thing for me is I feel we are a very static team, there is no movement we don't run off the ball enough,we are just happy to stand flat footed and pass from side to side . We will never create chances and score goals like this.

When we do run of the ball etc things happen look at last night Son one in one with the keeper , Alli winning a penalty

When Alli won that penalty it was the first time in the match he found himself in that position . Why

Seems to me like we treated this like the Europa league group it looked like after the draw. I've noticed it myself, haven't really cared that much. I loved it back in 2010, but never got into it this year. Playing at Wembley as well, feels strange, then in front of what, 5000 people yesterday? Not an excuse, of course. I honestly don't care that much we're out, it was the lack of effort yesterday that disappointed me the most.

Hopefully we'll be more geared up for Chelsea. Two of our best performances this season have been against top sides, so I'm not really worried. Just don't play dier at CB again.

My feelings as well, I said exactly the same to my mates last night. The last 3 CL games I just haven't got excited for before the game. It almost feels like the international weeks, an unwanted break between domestic competition. That's truly how I feel not just a sulky comment because we're out, obviously I would have loved to have gone through but I just don't feel that bothered.

Ultimately you need to win your home games to progress in this tournament. Unfortunately for us we didn't have any.The bizarre team selection for this game didn't help either but sometimes you have to lose to win in the end.We had no choice about wembley

I don't think Poch considered last nights selection a weakened team.

No i agree, i think he has put his faith in players like Trippier, Wimmer etc who he has hoped will kick on this season, however they clearly havent.

This is where I dont undertstand why the club said we couldnt play at WHL this season.

If Monaco can hold CL matches with only 9000 or so crowds, why couldnt we with 30000

They answered this at the latest trust meeting:

IM then addressed the reasoning for moving Champions League games to Wembley, stating categorically that those games could not have been played at White Hart Lane this season. The loss of 4,000 seats was part of the picture, but there were also issues with broadcasting and parking facilities, and the non-negotiable requirements of the broadcasting companies, UEFA partners and opposition clubs.
