Vincent Janssen

I wasnt able to watch the game. I had business meetings all day. How did he play?

Same as you've seen so far at Spurs. Held the ball up well, however tonight he had zero support til Lamela came on after 65 mins. Carroll and Onomah were utterly shocking and GKN played too wide to really help VJ. I felt sorry for him this evening - he was giving 110% but odds were stacked against him trying to take on a back 4 on his own

He was more isolated than Donald Trump and a women's rally

Onomah played like one of those women without the anger and carrol played like one of those women without a pulse

He does need to start making some runs behind the defence, even just so that defenders think that he might occasionally do that and cause some doubt in their minds. At the moment, a CB can get as close as they want because he never runs behind them. I don't think he's a bad player, just no convince that he's suite to our style of play
That's just the thing though, his pace is slower than most centre backs, so they feel confident getting tight. He is unlikely to spin and beat both centre backs and score, so they are very wise to him. Let him get it and don't give away a freekick, let him slide it out wide to someone who will just feed back to someone who feeds it back to someone who feeds it back to the keeper.

Vince knows he is slow, so he starts his runs early and is offside.

You are setting up straw men there with the Messi analogy. It's not about that. 47 million would have enabled us, or at least should have enabled us to get in a decent player and one tested at Premier league level. There's one doing a pretty good job at Southampton right now, who we should have got in and he would have been a lot cheaper than Janssen

Buying and a football player is not like buying a household equipment. It is not like that you can walk into the shop, finding an equipment of your need and just get it home. Football players are humans with a large ego and a kind of strange self-image.

A dishwasher will never require to have the best place in the kitchen.
The TV in the living room will never be jealous if you get a never and more expensive TV to your bedroom.
etc...

I think Spurs fans should not be afraid of the truth. Janssen may be a stud in other colours but he looks a bust in Spurs.

I don't think that's right. I'm just not sure that he's the right CF for a team which dominates possession in most of their games. A hold-up CF is likely to be more use in a game where his team are under the cosh regularly. Last night would have been a good game for him however he had zero support til Lamela came on

Thought he did ever so well, really. Great hold up play, tried and tried, found his team mates often, tried to get into space, had our crossing been more precise he would've scored twice. Thought he showed determination more than most out there yesterday, and looked very frustrated when things didn't work. Good to see him pound in the pen, and great to hear our people up there sing his name. Apart from vorm, our best player yesterday, in my opinion.

That's the thing. As much as I like the lad, I'm not sure he's the best fit as a lone striker in our system. He's not very quick, and would probably benefit from playing off of a smart and quick second striker, like son. It's too easy to contain him to do his hold up routine, as he simply doesn't have the agility to get past players on his own at the moment. I actually thought we looked a bit more unpredictable going forward when Harrison came on, there was a bit more going on right in front of the box. I think we should have a plan b in these type of games to play two strikers, get the opponents central defenders to work more, and make us less one dimensional, especially when our attacking mids aren't up to much.

Would you say he's acclimatised to living in a foreign country, got used to the pace and physicality of the PL, learnt all his teammates traits/movements, and knows Poch's tactics instinctively?

That is not Janssens fault and no one can accuse him of not giving it his all. So the situation we find ourselves in is not of Janssens doing. Vincent is in truth not was not what was required for this Pochettino team.

We have landed ourselves in a situation of a perfect storm striker and thus goal wise.
Harry was freakishly outstanding over the past two seasons, bless him. I for one was gobsmacked at what he did.
We of course needed a understudy/backup striker to take the burden off Harry and GHod forbid he gets injured.
What do Spurs do, look for a bargain! When will we learn?

Now we have our main striker down and his replacement floundering as he valiantly attempts to become a Kane MkII. Not in a million years and as Ive said that not at VJ's door.

Who ever chose/scouted/bought VJ needs to take a serious look in the mirror.

This situation has already started to take its toll points wise and I'm not at all sure this is not going to continue.

?????????

Previously I said that he needs too much time and space. Souness said exactly the same thing in the post match wrap. Like me, he said he could see that Janssen would get a lot of goals in a weaker league, but struggle in the premier league.

I said that earlier.............;)

He was spot on though.

Or just adapt to the pace of the league, as so many other players have had to do before him.

Other case could be that he is taking too long for a club at the EPL level i.e. some Spurs fans are afraid of making a decision (and terming it as support of him) because he may turn out better.

I can agree with this. He doesnt fit the Spurs lone striker system. We do need a plan B with him.
