Transfer Policy

Not even worth it. I've argued this before and just get about 2/3 jump on me saying that he limits our play. Despite scoring 20 goals a season apparently.

I know. Although the exemplar of consistency in that he puts the ball in the back of the net, apparently he's not good enough for us as he's not enough of a team player.

I've seen enough of us this season to see that, often, what we miss is someone to get on the end of the raft of chances which we create. All this gibberish about needing a striker who is a teamplayer is a bit of a red herring; it's important if you struggle to create, but we have - quite simply - one of the most creative midfields in the entire league. That's why we create so much; wide left, wide right, through the middle.

The problem is thus: if you are forever wanting a striker to drop deep and link-up with play, y'know - all that fancy brick ... then you run the serious risk of play advancing ahead of said striker, so much so that he's not actually there to apply the finish which is required from all the pretty lead-up, tippy-tappy brick. That's our problem.

Give me a poacher like Darren Bent - in this creative team - any day. I don't really care if he pitches a tent in the 18-yard box for 89mins of the game - just as long as he comes out for 1min and cooly slots a chance or two away. Goals - often very under-rated.

Precisely this.

Really? Is he not a streaky players who scores when he's in form.
He has 9 goals this season. Less then Ade and Defoe. Same as Bale and VdV.

He has 1 assist. 10 less than Adebayor, 4 less than VdV and same as Defoe.

I aint Bents biggest fan but even Messi would struggle to score in that Villa team - theyre a pile of brick.

He's been injured for months now and will not play again this season. Funny how they've slipped towards relegation since then.

He's also a better player than Defoe, always has been.

Defoe stills scores goals though doesn't he?

Doesnt get as many goals as a pure finisher / poacher should. thats why he's never established himself at international level and why no other team in the top 4 has ever tried to sign him, even when he was very gettable at West Ham, Pompey or in his first spell at Spurs. All the teams in the top 4 at those teams decided not to try to sign him, which along with his number of England caps is a good indication of his level

Bale, VDV, Modric, Parker - loving it!

VDV was simply offered to us on the last day of the transfer window, no transfer policy involved

If Parker was a part of an effective police he would have been purchased prior to the season starting and not after we had lost our first two games. Especially as we had qualified for the CL over three months previous

I accept Modric and Bale, but they have been here a while now. Over the last five or so transfer windows are dealings have left a lot to be desired

I really am not convinced that altough a good player VDV has brought enough to the club to be classed a good buy. Maybe his "name" is clouding my judgement and i expect more from him. If Krancjar had done what VDV has done i would say he was a good buy but i belived VDV would be a better player for us then he has been.

Add to this that at times i feel we have had to try and accomodate VDV when we should have played other players or other formations and i think he is not been a great sucess, a good player i would give him a rating of 7.5 out of 10 for his stay with us so far. If he had played for us like he did in the first 3 months the whole time i wouldf have been able to give him a higher rating.

My bug bear has always been as most of the time he plays instead of a striker that he should score a few more goals, but most importantly that he should not isolate Ade. He simply comes to deep picking the ball of our back 4 when we have other players that could do that. We have Modric to dictate play
