American politics

Have to credit the republican party.

As late as the George W years it seemed like any deviation from the "(old) white man" president was going to be a long wait. In less than a decade they might just have managed to help both a black man and a woman become presidents. Really took something special from the republicans to manage to lose to someone so... demographically challenged in 3 president races in a row (assuming Hillary wins it).

Fighting the great fight of equality through ignorance and incompetence - The Republican Party (tm)

I'm more concerned about the fact that we love in a society where people like to prepend words with "post" to make their opinions seem more valid or clever ;)

Well you can hardly write after truth, after science can you? Anyway, there is a movement nowadays to completely disregard science, especially if it contradicts vested interest.

That's because truth and science both still exist. In reality and as abstract concepts.

Post science and post truth are impossible states because you can't destroy concepts. Either that or they're just some meaningless words put together by some student blogger in an attempt to sound clever that actually have no depth or real meaning, endlessly repeated by readers of said blogs because it sounds like something clever and sounds like something that makes the party they don't like sound bad.

Scara , it's called figurative language, as opposed to literal language. Of course science still exists, but to many it has no great status and can be denied. There are so many instances of this, but climate change denial is the chief one.

It could go the other way and voters opt for the safe/competent option.

I thought that would be the case with the EU referendum but clearly I was wrong. Unfortunately there are a lot of dumb, ignorant, racist rednecks in America, but surely they are not stupid enough to elect Trump?

That's just people holding a different opinion to you. Just because they're wrong, you don't need some new term to describe them that makes it sound like an apocalyptic end to the method of politics, they just don't agree with you.

The height of unions in the 70s wasn't described as post-economics, it was just some dumb fudges believing in silly political ideas.

Science is science is science. Credentials and expertise don't seem to count for much these days. It's more a case of having the money to drown out the facts. Read Trump here. He can say any old crap and it gets reported without any questioning.

I don't think anything's changed - people have always made brick up in politics and people have always believed them.

The difference now is that those people who believe them are accessible to journalists, pollsters, etc via improved communications and we know they're there. They're now more than just a number at the ballot box.

Here's an example, Trump claiming that Clinton was behind the Birther Movement and that he ended it. He was tweeting all sorts of outlandish conspiracy theories about that. All went by, with nary a contradiction from the media. When caught out in a lie, just keep repeating it and say it louder. Who was it that came up with that idea again?....oh I don't know, someone will say who it was.

That's been happening for as long as democracy has existed.

Trump has the advantage for sure. As long as he doesn't sh1t in his hand and throw it at Clinton, the undecideds might think he looks presidential afterall. No work for me tomorrow, I might try and stay up and watch some of the debate (I'm a sad qunt I know).
The problem for SheClinton is that the best thing she can do to win the debate is to use her skill as a lawyer to pin Trump down on positions he keeps shifting.

Acting and sounding like a lawyer is one of the main reasons so many people distrust her.

Settling down to watch the debate. If it is like any ofthe previous ones I have seen it will be stage managed BS. This is the first election in America I have the right to vote in.

I watched the first hour of it. From what I saw, Clinton did a lot better. Not sure Trump would have appealed to anybody who was on the fence.

Looking at the less biased polls to come out from the night, Clinton seems to have it roughly 60-40.

Considering Trump's style of politics, I'd say that's probably a draw for them. Trump should expect to get destroyed in live debates, the fact that he hasn't will probably leave him happier than SheClinton today.

I bet you recorded it, you little tinker.....
