Tom Carroll

I like Carroll. Plays with his head up and is always moving into space to receive it, but he does need to step it up to another level this season. He needs a little more of everything really and to impact games more. He is in last chance saloon, at Spurs at least.

I agree, but i think if he is going to step up ( and i believe he can) then he needs to play a few games on the trot. Will he get given that chance? i really hope so because he gives us something our other players can not ( imo).

I can't see that happening in the league. You'd have to think his appearances will be limited to the league cup or the FA cup, to start with anyway.

He's a good player but quite a light touch, quite subtle. Reminds me of other little chaps in the Prem like that wee chappy at Swansea with the black hair... wotsisname... and ickle Joe Allen at Liverpool who just had to go to Stoke to get games, despite having a great Euros. They are tidy but struggle to make an impact.

Mason didn't want to leave the club but wanted first team football. We couldn't give him it. We can all do the math.

Carroll is happy to sit on the bench and play sparingly.

You make him sound like a lazy fekker who's happy to coast and pick up an easy paycheck...

He lacks the physicality to play in a central midfield 2, he could do a job as a 10 but unfortunately for him I think we simply have better options. if he were able to put on some muscle he might have had a chance with us, personally I believe this may well be his last season with us.

I think we are all getting a little too focused on creating a team of athletic demi-gods. It is not american football after all and the small guy can be equally effective if he is fast, has technique and more importantly is smart enough.

I love Dembele. He is a physical player. I never seen a player that can use their physique to retain possession as well as he does. It is a sight to behold, but I love him more for his dribbling ability and close control. I can't get over how many times he glides by players by just dropping his shoulder. I know he's going to do it and it still manages to fool the idiot in front of him every time.
I loved Modric when he ran the entire game for us. Another master of the dropped shoulder I might add. I love Iniesta for his ability to see the complete picture in an instance and make the right pass every time. I loved Xavi for his ability to always find space and somehow never get tackled.

Big or small, it doesn't make a difference if you have the football smarts*. Carroll is a very smart player but he plays within himself a little. He has to step out of his safety zone and impose himself on the game more. He has it in him to do this, I'm sure of it.
(*there are obvious exception to this rule. Say a goalie or CB for instance. It's more of a guideline really)

I believe he will be with us until he's 38, amassing 512 league games, 89 Champions League appearances and having a trophy cabinet laden with awards, accolades and those floppy caps with the gold brocade they give for internationals (just the 69 international games for the lad). Or he'll be off on loan in January to Barnsley.

Yeah cos small men can't play there as shown by Modric and Kante...

Any of you Carroll doubters think he might be worth keeping if only to reduce the chance of Kane leaving. Carroll is probably Kane's best mate at the club. One of the main reason Kane loves Tottenham is being surrounded by the players he has come through the ranks with.

I do get irritated when people misquote me to make a point. I never said anything him being small man, but I did mention that he needs some muscle and he looks physicality. You mention Kante well have a look at his legs, they give him physical stability

And you mentioned Modric, well take a look at his thighs, again it gives him strength, a solid foundation

the strength and power in their legs gives the stability and stops them being knocked off the ball despite the fact that they are small players

Absolute dribble

Your judging a players strength from googled images and your opinion

The strongest player in the league with the ball (which is important) is Dembele comfortably. He isn't a massive player and doesn't have massive thighs. He has core strength and great technique. We had a lad a at school who was 5 foot nothing and was the strongest player on the ball of nay of us because he had a low centre of gravity (aguero style) and used the triangle well as a base (strongest shape in the world)

Im not saying Carroll is a muscle man by any means but he can do the job if he is taught how too

And to highlight the muscle arguments failure I give you Nacer Chaldi - a beast with tinkle poor technique and understanding of how to use his phisique

Definitely based on my opinion, also based on watching Modric play in the flesh and on TV and Kante on tv and 2 games at the Lane

IF I had remembered I would have added Carroll lacks the core strength that Aguero has. As for Dembele's thighs, they look solid to me

And whatever you think Dembele lacks in his legs unlike Carroll he makes up for it with the power and physicality he has in his upper body. And no you do not need to be a muscle man but you need a more than Carroll has at the moment

I think you are spending too much time looking at men's thighs. Not that there's anything wrong with that.;) Here's a snap of Carroll's legs:

I like Carroll too, and I still hope he can eventually tread more closely in the footsteps of Luka Modrić, but to get there, he needs to become a lot more difficult to get the ball off, for one thing.

Looks like he got a decent tan from his summer hols. Also good to see a pro hit the gym and stay fit during the summer break so that they're raring to go for pre-season

I agree and i am hoping that we get to see him have a run of games because this in/out and few minutes here/there is not giving him the chance to show what he can do. As for all this body strength gonad*s ( imo) as others have said there have been many examples of small players proving their worth over the years.

Ardiles and Modric were tough as nails.

Carroll is delicate and passive. Much more like Vinny Samways than the two above.

Winks already looks more streetwise and assertive than Carroll
