I will keep hoping that Poch will want to incorporate a genuine creator in the team that will push into a higher level

Running around like maniacs will only get us so far;)

I agree on the last bit longer-term but Mata is not even much of a creator any more these days. I think the Turkish player from Mainz, Yunus Malli, would be more likely and cheaper (both in terms of fee and wages) and would still likely be on the way up (unlike Mata).

Nah Mata is at the peak of his career age wise and is a proven performer. Just what we need

I don't want to take this thread too off topic and anyway I'm sure a few will jump in and say that Mata doesn't fit Pochs ways and all that yada yada yada

I'm tell you what though, don't be surprised to see Mata lining up for Everton against us and causing havoc.

Whatever team Poch picks I kinda have the feeling it will be predictable, the tactics will be predictable and opposing managers will find it too simple to find ways to stop us. That's why I think Poch needs to do something a bit leftfield, different, to shake things up and make people think what we are up to

What about our recent transfer business makes you think Poch is or will be 'predictable'?

Wanyama is a simple defensive mid who will play with or be back up to Dier and Dembele. No change there, just more depth.

Janssen is Kane lite, a back up, similar players again

So far we have simply strengthened the squad like for like

You honestly think Dier, Dembele and Wanyama have the exact same attributes and play exactly the same way?
You think Kane and Janssen are simply replicas?

Not exact but cut from the same cloth

Nothing wrong with that, as I said we have greater depth, but I see little that will enable us to play differently to how we did last season

That's why the predicted line up for the first game of the season is pretty much familiar from most posters and we will play exactly as we did last season. If you see something different then fair play

Get a grip people. All these crazy notions of who will play. It's blindingly obvious.

Daines;
Naylor, Holmes, McAllister, Perryman,
Pratt, McNab, Hoddle, Moores, Lee, Taylor.

9-0 Spurs. Lee 4, Moores 3, Hoddle and Tayolor one each.

Ok, so we have basically found our starting line-up, minus any possible injuries or surprise signings. But what about Everton? Have they kept their key players? All I've seen so far is "Everton have a strong interest in X player", but have they actually signed anyone?

----------------------------Lloris---------------------------

Walker----Toby-------------------Wimmer-----Rose

--------------Dier----------------------Bentaleb--------

Lamela-----------------Alli----------------------Eriksen

---------------------------Kane------------------------------

Subs: Vorm, Jan, Trippier, Wanyama, N'Koudou (still baffled, but hey), Mason, Jansen

Logic -

1) Wimmer - I haven't forgotten the last game of last season, and I doubt Poch has either. Wimmer is my bet for the major change in the line-up we'll see as a result of that calamity.

2) Bentaleb - all those pre-season snippets Spurs TV have been putting out (the ones where they ask players questions about pre-season) have shown that, in the opinion of most of the lads, Bentaleb is the bloke who's been running his socks off in training so far. I suspect he'll get the nod sans Dembele for this reason.

3) Kane up front - Not what I would have done, but realistically, it's probably what we'll see, since Jansen won't be thrown in straight away.

4) Son not even on the bench - he'll be away at the Olympics then, won't he?

Agree we'll most likely see Wimmer getting a start - but the main reason being Verts isn't expected back for the first couple of games is he? (Ankle injury picked up at Euros). CCV or Davies on the bench instead. Otherwise, assuming Bentaleb has impressed in pre-season, that's how I see us lining up.

Again, can you say exactly how Kane and Janssen are similar (apart from they are both strikers)?
Also, does Wanyama have the same attributes as Dier? As Dembele?

The similarity of the predicted line-ups suggests a settled team who punched above their weight last season to finish 3rd. If we play the same way and finish similarly i fail to see where there could be any complaints.

Personally, these signings for me mean we are NOT automatically looking to only play the same way. I see lots of additional tactical variation possibilities with the recent signings as well as added depth.

Well if you are so enlightened with our new signings and seem to know their attributes so well, why don't you tell me where I'm so wrong

What is Wanyama going to give us that Dier or Dembele cannot and the same with Janssen instead of Kane?

Nope
Other than a Keeper Stelenberg

Their screwed that despite the new found wealth they can only spend £17m more in wages than last season (FFP rules for the prem)

It means they have to be extra carful and add to that their new part owner isn't that wealthy there a but stuck (£1.7b is a lot to you and I but nothing in football terms with a new ground to fund
