DoF are inherently a long term appointment. We all saw how Comolli's work didn't come to fruition until long after he'd departed. Their focus is 2-4 years in the future, not this season.

I think he's 2 years into a 4 year contract, so I guess it will be more in 12-18 months that his position will be reviewed.

People also seem to assume he'd be keen to move 'back to Italy', but forget he's been living in London since late 2007 when he became England Assistant Manager.

Some other thoughts about the new DoF:

- Poch's mentor Bielsa left Marseilles in August. He's 60 now, so an age he might fancy an upstairs role

- Poch's DoF from Espanyol, Ramon Planes, is highly rated and currently unattached. Spanish wikipedia (I know) says he's already on our payroll as 'Technical Secretariat'

Les Reed isn't a Poch person specifically. He was their academy guy who got promoted when Cortese left.

I don't know much about him, but the way people like Stephen Gerrard talk about him (Gerrard hates him from England youth days), he's a bit of an old school guy. He's close to Howard Wilkinson and those sorts.

I actually worked with Reed on a couple of occasions while he was at the FA, they sacked him at the end and there were not many sad to see him go.

She's still an accountant who does the paperwork. Like Darren Eales and John Alexander before her. Not a deal negotiator with a black book of agents like Baldini/Comolli/Arnesen.

And Les Reed was promoted from Head of Football Development (which is similar to McDermott's role) to Executive Director when Cortese left.
 
Cortese was Chairman, albeit a rather hands on one, Les Read worked under him overseeing the Academy/Scouting/Sports Medicine etc - a role which had and has much more influence than you are implying. when Corteses left there was a minor reshuffle but Les Read essentially had the same responsibilities as before, just a more senior job title (no doubt to reflect his standing at the club)

I do agree he's not a Baldini replacement, but then neither is Cortese

She's a board member of sixteen of the companies related to the club, I doubt that she does a lot of admin.

This quote from a piece on Sky Sports website suggests that she is very much involved in the football side of things and is carrying out negotiations:

So the story (and in the end FACT) of Baldini leaving at the end of the window wasn't just based on 'Twitter wannabees''. And the Daily Telegraph DID have it right....the levels that some were going to put their heads in the sand over this story was crazy in the end.

Anyway, i'm sad to see him go:( He seemed to be someone that could get deals done and seemed a good ambassador for the club esp overseas.
So long Frankie, thanks for the buzz you gave us during the summer of 2013 when all those deals were getting done and dusted mostly before anyone had a sniff.

It is good to question sources of information. Even now the story has turned out to be correct, it was right to questions its veracity.
